hey. what's the general concensus as to the best carrier for Siemens' phone in NYC? I am talking about best in all respects: call performance, feature support, etc.... I am looking to switch to an SL55 of a SX1 when it comes out and was looking for info on who to go with. I am also looking for a plan that involves no national roaming (it apears as though T-mobile only supports non-roaming calls near large cities, is this true?) Thanks for the info.

Well in terms of coverage, T-Mobile and Cingular are identical (they use the same network!)

That leaves AT&T, which will soon be super with its GSM850 service that goes places T-Cingular's GSM1900 dare not go

So I suggest AT&T.

Although my friend in NYC DOES have T-Mo and loves its coverage there...

And if the phone you get is only tri-band, then it doesn't matter how much 850mhz service aT&T offers you...your phone can't see it!

I am happy with my T-Mo service in the NYC area, even though I mostly use it in NJ and CT... I used to work in Manhattan and the service was fine.

T-Mo has no roaming charges, but the service only works in areas that are indicated on their coverage map. It is mostly large cities, but there is buildout into more rural areas.
