Edit Software

Hi,

I have just bought a serial cable off ebay for my GD87e. It turns out it is not an official Panasonic serial cable and therefore it will not work with the edit software off the Panasonic website. I have been told I need to use alternative software.
I can't use the headset manager software as that only works with the usb cable.
Does anyone know of any software which will work with a serial cable other than the edit software on the panasonic website.

Cheers
Steve

how do you know it will not work with the edit tool?

I have tried it with the edit software and it is unable to see the phone. I have read through a number of forums like this one and it seems there are quite a few people who have had this problem. I contacted the seller from whom I purchased the cable and he told me that it would not work with the panasonic software.
Problem is, I can not find any other software it would work with.
Does anyone have an unofficial serial data cable from ebay working with the edit software or does anyone know of any alternative software.

becuase you got a test mode cable. you can try it with cb2000 and if it works, that is exactly the case. If that has happened then you are basically SOL mate. It is not a matter of working with the software, it does not work with the mobile that way.

I tried the CB2000 software but it doesn't work either. Again the seller says this is because it is official Panasonic software and it won't work with it.

ask the seller to provide you with the software (at least a link to download it). or else he's lying.

it should either work with edit tools, or cb2000.

There is nothing in the Panasonic software that detects the type of cable attached. It is simply the wrong pinouts for the mobile.

I just received my cable and sure enough... I'm having the same problem. I've tried about 4 different types of software and they just wont see the phone.

By the way, when the phone is connected to the serial port, is a light supposed to come on? IE: The way the red light comes on when the phone is charging.

so does anyone has the Pin assignment for GU87 GD88??
Those 14 pins on the bottom of the phone. Also does anyone have the correct cable order for a pair USB data cable? Appreciate.

There is no usb port on gx8x. and no there is not a light that turns on when plug in a data cable.
I am not going to be much help here.....All I know is that the voltages out of the mobile for 232 rx and tx are not the same as the computer, so there is a level shifter in the cable.
So. the is a battery +&-, there is a +VCC, 232 RX/TX/GND, Audio RX/TX/GND/Mute. Thats 10 plus the 2 interupts that we have to tape over to make a regular datacable work as a test mode cable. That is 12 of 14, anyone else have an idea on the last two? Maybe additional gnd?

Forgetting about the data cable for a minute. Can somebody let me know if there is any software other than the edit tool software or the handset manager software for passing data from my phone to my pc.

Not that I am aware of. You can us IrDA, MMS or email to get stuff across. But these do not require specialized software

lost_rebel, BB88,

I really appreciate your effort. The Pin Assignment Picture
is fantastic. I will try to match it with the Serial Data Cable
that I received and try to find the correct Pin layout.
I could send a request to the phone but the phone does
not seen to return the request. If the sub-lcd light would not light up during the initialization or transmission, it is understandable.

how does one enable irda reception of files on the phone? I can only send images to my notebook but i want to send files from my notebook to the phone. Is that possible?

You have to tell the mobile to receive IR data. It is in the menu where the calculator is.
