P800 without Bluetooth headset

I almost always use my P8 with my Digital Bluespoon or HBH-35. Today I left the house without either. When placing calls on the handset, there was a noticeable delay before the connected call could be heard through the handset.

Thinking that it might have been looking for a headset before letting me hear the call (annoying) I tried turning Bluetooth off. That did it. I could hear the connected call right away.

I haven't tried changing the setting in the handsfree profile from headset to phone but I will.

I'm just wondering if this is "normal" behavior. It's no biggie but I'd have to change a setting everytime I want to go off or on headset.

FWIW, I'm using the very latest R2D firmware, just upgraded last week by VDX.

try to put it on "AUTO" instead of "ON" and it should do the job...

Thanks, Flex, but I've had "Auto" create other problems for me. I'll play around with it and see whassup.

Funny you should notice this. This same pause has been happening to me in the last month...I think it's AT&T, but I'm not sure. I'm in LA as well.

I believe it is a fairly common issue. It happened to me both before and after the upgrade to R2D (by the way I think the BT firmware version did not change on my upgrade.)

To avoid problems, I always make sure have my headset "on" before turning on BT on the P800. If I am not using the headset, I turn BT off.

I'm no expert, but I attribute the problem to the general instability of bluetooth on the P800. I never had so much BT trouble on my R520m or T68i as I do with the P800.

Hopefully a future firmware update will help.

I always turn BT completely OFF when not using it,..theres no reason to have it on,...

AUTO-mode should not cause any problems if theres no headset, I have never experienced that.

AUTO-mode does have limited functionality, and can cause some problems when using headset...e.g. lost calls etc.
Guess thats also why this function is left out on the T610.

True ! ,..the P800 isnt exactly the most stabile BT-phone out there, unfortunately.
Thats one of the main reasons why I dont have it anymore,..it behaves strangely sometimes.

When I use BT,..I always turn phone BT on first,..then headset.
When shutting down : headset off first,..then phone.
This always works for me...

And my phone's answering-mode is set to AUTO or Normal,..this way it will work with headset, when headset is visible, and as a normal phone when headset is turned off.
