Hey. I just got a Panasonic GU87 a few days ago, but unfortunately decided to exchange it. The phone has an awesome look to it, however, reception in my area (the San Francisco Bay Area) simply was not cutting it. I ended up picking up a Nokia 6590 instead, which gets great reception, but simply cannot match up to the GU87 when it comes to it's awe-inspiring visual appeal.

Anyway, I was just wondering if people were experiencing similar reception problems with the GU87. In my opinion, CNET summarized this phone's reception quite well when it said that it was "hit-or-miss." How have others experiences been as far as reception is concerned with this phone and where do you guys live...?

I'll be in Philadelphia pretty soon and was hoping that somebody from this area has a GU87 and could tell me about reception there. I'd also just be interested to hear about people's perception/feelings towards this phone.

Also, I have AT&T (I think they are the only carrier offering this phone thus far anyway, correct?).

Thanks a lot!!

Sup gng,

I got the GU87 phone, and I'm in Philly. I'm pretty sure AT&T is the only US carrier for the GU87. Although an unlocked GU87(like mine) works on other networks.

I get a pretty good signal in Philly. I was curious about it's range, and it had a strong signal in south Jersey. West of Philly, (Allentown) i had a "hit or miss" signal. But for the most part, I have no problems with getting a signal. There are always "dead zones" but not much you can do about that.

From what i know, the GSM network is still relatively small(In US anyway), so the signal is usually strongest in the bigger cities. SanFran would definitely qualify But who knows. I had T-Mobile about a year ago, and the signal was terrible. I think the GSM network at the time was still to small. I waited about a year, and went with AT&T and the GU87. No problems now. Every phone has it's good things, and it's bad things. Depends on the user. The GU87 doesn't have java support, so you won't be able to download any new games, or anything like that. But no biggie for me. What sold me was built in camera, and the pure eye candy of the screen. Good luck with it if you get it again in Philly.
