Audiovox 8500

Just picked up an Audiovox 8500 and when I go onto my Yahoo mail and compose a message, and select 'word' as my option, nothing happens when I press the keys.
If I am in any other mode there is no problem. However one of the reasons why I got this phone is because of the 9 line display and if I can't use the T9 with composing an email in Yahoo then I have a problem....
Anyone know what's going on?
