Data Cable Problems

Hello all

I am a new member of HoFo and really need some help. I recently purchased a USB data cable from some fly by night and I was told that this cable is good for transferring data from my phone to my PC and Vice Versa. The problem I have is I cant get any software that will detect my phone. I have tried Fone data suite, handset manager (which is probably the same program) & Edit tool software. None of these programs detect my phone. I always see a message saying " Trying to connect to the handset"
What am I doing wrong? Do I have the wrong cable?
I went back to the store where I purchased it and he ran a program called CB2000 which detected my phone fine. He told me that I have to search for the right software for the cable to work properly. Personally, I think I was taking for a ride.

Can someone guide me on what I have to do to make this darn thing work for me? All I want to do is transfer data ( pictures, etc.. to PC and Vice Versa)
I have been trying for over a week now and I cant figure out how to get it to work.
I read over all the previous posts and even tried the pin 4 and 10 thingie but no luck.

Any help on this matter would be great !

Thanks in advance

I think you may have been stuck with a service cable.... that is probably why it is only working to CB2000. Did you try having the store test it with the other software??

Did you make sure that you are using the COM1 port for the connection? I have read somehwere that you need to ensure that the sata cable is using COM1 port for the transferring? Haven't tried it myself yet since I am still waiting for my data cable (with fone data suite CD) to arrive in the mail..

It doesn't matter wich comport U use, as long as they match!

Are you sure that you have the USB to Serial bridge installed on your PC! check this, and if so look at what comport it is....

If everything is set right and still no go, I guass also that it is a service cable and no datacable. Then I should recommend you to go to the store, and tell them that you went with the cable to panasonic, and that they told you that it was the wrong cable. Good luck, en let me know. Because I thought service cables only are in serial?!?..

Sounds like you have a Com port conflict. Like bassie said, you have to install the driver for the data cable. Did it come with Fone Data Suite? I assume so since you have it Anyway, it should install the software, and set itself up on a Com port depending on which USB oyu have it hooked to on your PC. Check Device Manager/Ports(Com & LPT) and look for "MAT USB-to-Serial Bridge" If that is there, it should show you the Com port # it is installed on. The number doesn't matter, unless your trying to flash your phone to unlock it. All the software I have used it on has worked with all Com Ports. I tested Handset manager is Fone data suite. When you open it, it should detect your phone automatically, and start to download your contacts. If not, then it may be a service cable, but i don't think so.

First of all, Thank you all for your replies.

After reading the posts and all previous posts, I took the time to open the data cable (USB) and noticed that there are only 4 or 5 wires on the conecting end of the data cable. ( the part that connects to the phone) Maybe this might help determine what type of cable I have.

I checked Device manager and there is a port named "profilic USb - serial Com port ( com 3) which is displayed on device manager.

I have tried everything regarding drivers and MAT software. When I bought the data cable, it did not come with software. I purchased it from a small store which carries cell phone accessories. The other softwares I have seen on the net are different. The set includes software and data cable together. I do not have that one.
I downloaded the software from the MAT website thinking it would work. I was UNABLE to download the driver on that site for whatever reason. I keep getting "page not found " error. If anyone has the driver that is from the MAT website, I would really love to have it emailed to me. My email is on my profile.

If a substitute software is available, I would love to have that as well.

I think im SOL. The cable does not detect my phone for whatever reason. The guy from the store tried it with CB2000 and it did detect my phone right away. Does that mean I have a service cable?
If so, where can I buy the proper cable from the net? An address would be great.

Thanks for the support all.

Most of us got the USB cable from eBay, and it should look like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...agename=rvi:1:1

I just did a search on the cable, and found that there are a lot more different kind of cables available for this phone. I don't know if any of them work with this phone for ringtone/picture, the one above is guaranteed to work (if he's selling what is shown)

I just purchased a new wire and software package from ebay and hopefully this one will work. I will keep you posted if it works or not. I give up trying to fiddle with a service cable. They just dont work.

Thanks for the user who guided me to buying a new cable and software package.

Cheers

I have been in contact with a guy who managed to convert his service cable to a cable doing both. I am currently seeking info from him on how he changed his cable in a way where he could do both.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I purchased a new data cable from ebay and I just received it. IT WORKS GREAT !!

I did have a service cable which I think is useless if I dont have the software to use it with.

OT: I dont know how to upload the pictures from my phone to my computer. Does anyone have any advice for me? Do I need a different software to do that?
Any replies would be great !!
