! in front of operator name

I have seen on a few occasions a ! in front of my provider's name... !T-Mobile on both my phone and my wife's phone (M46 and SL55). What the heck does this mean?

I saw it one other time when I was in the supermarket and noticed a !AT&T Wireless (I'm not supposed to roam on them) until I was in the parking lot when it quickly became T-Mobile again.

I haven't seen anything on this in the manuals and searching for ! will be futile.

Thanks

I have no idea what this means either but it also happened to me on an S55 today. It was flashing and showing that. I tried calling the phone but it was off the network. I took out the SIM card and threw it in my spare Nokia 3390 just to see and it picked up no network. Perhaps it is the Siemens' way of saying that it lost the network?

No network on a Siemens phone is displayed as "Network search".

On a couple of occasions I have been able to place a call, although all I have really done is see if I can get it to dial or giveme an error. After doing that the ! usually disappears.

I have an SL 56 and it did that this weekend within my home service area.. It said !Cingular for about 5 minutes.. It over rode my home made operator logo...

It happened to me when I was at the beach where I had a very weak signal.
After it doing a network search it picked up that !AT&T and later dropped it and began another network seach... then I got a !T-Mobile. After a powerdown and waiting a while (hour+) the search went back to the !AT&T

No idea what that means but I wasn't able to call out more than once out of the 5 times I tried to make calls.
