I think it's fine to leave your phone plugged in to the charger overnight. If you plan to not use the phone for an extended period of time then I'd say don't leave it plugged in.

I plug my phone in when I get home from work and leave it there until I leave again in the morning. I guess that would be about 13 hours a day that it's on the charger. The only thing I see from doing this is that my battery is always ready to go. I work in areas several times a week that require roaming and that seems to eat my battery faster. Some days I will use an entire extended battery on my 8100 so I need it to be full every morning. To sum up, the worst thing I can see happening is you wear your battery, but they sell more where this one came from.

Charging a battery is much like a balloon. The more "air (or charge for the battery) you put in, the more it wants to come out.

Ao, as your battery is charging, the charger is also measuring the "pressure" (charge) of the electricity that wants to come out.

When it reaches a certain leve, (usualy 80%) the charger will go into a "trickle" mode where it slows down the charging a lot, mainly to prevent overcharging. It will trickle charge until the battery is "full" (not necesarily 100%) then the charger will cut it off, and not charge again until either thephone is powered on, or you unplug it, then plug it back in.

You can leave your phone plugged in for as long as you want (as long as you have a charger that is approved for the phone, sold either though the service provider or the manufacturer) and you won't have any worries (the only worry would be a power surge, but hopefully you have your APC surge protectors hooked up!).

Also, you don't have to worry about letting the battery die (you don't want a dead battery on a PDA for long!).

I usualy recommend to people to just plug in their phone when they go to bed, and if needed, use a car charger while driving.

The above information is correct.
Since it is a Lithium Ion battery it will not harm it. I charge mine at night and use the phone all day. My 8500's battery still holds a great charge and it's a little over 3 years old.

My 8100 hasn't seen less than a full battery indicator on the phone yet.

take a look at www.batteryuniversity.com.

This site contains some very useful information about all batteries but in particular check the section on lithium-ion.
