Siemens SL55 Wap Settings

Many of you have asked questions on WAP Settings for the SL55. nickp has done a great job putting together a detailed guide on them. If you are not a T Mobile subcriber just replace the settings with your own providers.


NOTE - Make certain that you input everything as shown. I had the toughest time figuring out why I was getting an "Invalid GPRS Profile" message whenever I tried accessing the web. It ended up that I had an extra "space" after the APN setting. Strangest thing............

BTW, my SL55 is running version 9 firmware and I am in the Milwaukee, WI market, but travel the US.

( NOTE - For this message, whenever I refer to the END/POWER button, I am talking about the physical button used to turm the phone on/off or end calls. )

Make Certain GPRS is enabled:

Menu,
Setup,
Connectivity
GPRS (Menu 9-6-1)
Press Change until box is checked.


For setting up MMS, WAP, Mail etc.... connectivity: (scroll down or ...)

Menu,
Setup,
Connectivity
Data Services (Menu 9-6-4)
Press Select.

For MMS and WAP:
- Highlight MMS,WAP and press SELECT
- Create a new profile or edit an existing one. Highlight a selection ( <Empty> 1 ) and press OPTIONS
- Press RENAME (I named mine T-Mobile)
- Press SAVE
- Highlight the newly created profile name and press EDIT
- Answer YES to "Changes may affect Application. Continue ?
- Make certain that GPRS Setting is checked.
- Highlight GPRS Settings and press EDIT
- APN = wap.voicestream.com
- Login Name = (leave blank)
- Password = (leave blank)
- Press SAVE
- Press END/POWER button to backspace through menus

For Mail, Java, RMS:
- Highlight Mail,Java,Rms and press SELECT
- Create a new profile or edit an existing one. Highlight a selection ( <Empty> 1 ) and press OPTIONS
- Press RENAME (I named mine T-Zones)
- Press SAVE
- Highlight the newly created profile name and press EDIT
- Answer YES to "Changes may affect Application. Continue ?
- Make certain that GPRS Setting is checked.
- Highlight GPRS Settings and press EDIT
- APN = wap.voicestream.com
- Login Name = (leave blank)
- Password = (leave blank)
- DNS 1 (opt.) = 000.000.000.000
- DNS 2 (opt.) = 000.000.000.000
- Press SAVE
- Press END/POWER button to backspace through menus

For setting up an HTTP profile: (scroll down or .... )

Menu,
Setup,
Connectivity
HTTP Profile (Menu 9-6-5)
Press Select.

- Provider: Select the profile you created under Mail Java RMS. (Mine is T-Zones)
- Linger Time = 300
- Proxy Deactive = YES
- Proxy Server - (leave blank)
- Proxy Port = 8080
- Username Proxy = (leave blank)
- Password Proxy = (leave blank)
- Press OK

Make certain that AUTHENTICATION is checked: (scroll down or ...)
Menu,
Setup,
Connectivity
Authentication (Menu 9-6-7)
Press Change until box is checked.

For Web access:

- Menu
- Surf & Fun
- Internet (Menu 3-1)

Once you press Select, it will attempt to connect.
- Press the END/POWER key once to stop connection attempt. You will now be at the main browser screen.
- Scroll down to menu selection #5 - Profiles
- Press Select
- Highlight "Profile One" or any existing profile and press EDIT
- Profile name = T-Zones
- IP Address = 216.155.165.050 (Make certain you enter 050 (not just 50) for the last address segment otherwise you will get an error when you try saving the profile.
- Port = 9201
- Homepage = http://wap.myvoicestream.com
- GPRS Lingertime = 5 Minutes
- CSD Lingertime = 180 Seconds (Default setting. I never set up/ use the CSD profile)
- Connection Profile = T-Mobile (This is the MMS, WAP profile you created earlier)
----- If you need to review you settings, scroll down to the EDIT button and press SELECT.
----- Scroll to GPRS Settings and press EDIT
----- Activated = YES
----- APN = wap.voicestream.com
----- Login Name = (leave blank)
----- Password - (leave blank)
----- Press SAVE
----- Press OK
----- Press END/POWER button to get back to main T-Sones Profile Setup screen.

- Press SAVE
- Press OK
- Make certain T-Zones circle is highlighted and press SELECT
- Press END/POWER button to return to main browser screen
- Press #1 - Homepage or #3 - Resume to connect to web
