I just got this Audiovox 8500. I went with Virgin Mobile and their prepaid plan. Anyhow, I try to place a call and I get some weird automated message. I have a problem placing a call with my cell phone. I try to make a call and I'm greeted with an automated voice message. It says, "Welcome to wireless roaming" and proceeds to give me four options:

Pay by a telephone calling card, call collect, pay with a credit card,
or use my prepaid account.

What do I do from there?

Also, it seems that I cannot check my balance or inbox at all, at
whatever signal strength. Please help. I really have no idea what I'm doing. If someone out there even remotely does know then any amount of help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've just gone exactly the same route and had no problems at all. Did you register the phone with VM? You have to do that either on the Web at www.virginmobile.com or by calling 1-888-322-1122. You should get $10 free credit just for buying the phone, and if you bought a TopUp card and activate that you should get another $20. If you activate through their Web site and use a credit card (and I think select automatic TopUp) you get another $5 credit.

But you HAVE to activate the phone first. They'll want the ESN from under the battery.

Thanks, but I've already registered my phone. That's the problem. They have my Vkey and everything. This is all very weird.

Then I'd say you need to call that 888 number I listed above and tell them what's going on.

Can you access your account on their Web page?

Did you wait the 24 hours to make calls and use the Virgin Extras? I didn't and it screwed mine up. Luckily I got it to work.
