Hi all

I was wondering about something, and you people could help me out here.

Where do you guys buy your phones, accessories etc,...is it mostly of internet-shops, special-retail-stores or ?

We are basically looking into this,..looking at shops etc in the US, maybe some bigger shops, could be like e.g. Office Depot, Best Buy - kind of shops,...or something similar.

Any phone-computer-IT-specific warehouses/shops ??

So any comments, ideas, addresses would be appreciated

Please also write internet-based shops here.

Thanks

BR

I buy phones either from mphone.co.uk or from expansys.com

In terms of computer supplies and such I get them from my local microcenter

I would second Adam at gsmphonesource.com. I've bought 2 phones from him and done firmware upgrades on both. He's been honest, fair and fast. Can't ask for more.

You also might want to take a look at Virtual Dynamix VD (sorry about that, Rick and Sung) is also highly regarded. Selection is different than Adam's, so if one doesn't have it, the other will.

If you go to either, tell them that Genghis sent you. Their response is almost guaranteed to be either huh? or who?

i guess it depends all where you are

for us users i think one of the best sources is amazon....... especially if you are getting a new plan the discount are HUGE...

P610 for 80bucks you can not go wrong....

dont try to buy there if you do NOT have a US driver licens etc etc etc.... they us that for the credit check....

here is the link

amazon

one thing i have to warn you guys off you will pay upfront the 300 bucks and get a mail in rebate.... of 220.... they are tricky so DO NOT FORGET to mail it with all the correct details!!! i have heard of guys that got screwed......

good luck

Jan, I assume you are asking about where people in the States go to buy phones who are not complete freaks like those of us on Howard? The masses go to little kiosks in the mall which are set up for different carriers, i.e.Cingular, T-mobile, Verizon, et....as well as the individual carrier stores.

The largest and higher traffic electronic stores in the South that carry a large inventory of cell phones and cell phone accessories are "Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depo, Office Warehouse, Tweeters," to name a few. These are very large electronic stores or Office Supply stores that carry electronics geared toward the office. All of them carry the latest cell phones and accessories and I am guessing that Nextlink is wanting to know where it should try to have it's products placed in order to get mass market exposure in the States.

Jan -- I second what Mark said. However, most of those that go to the kiosks (here in the States) and to the Office Depots, Best Buys, etc. aren't usually those that are looking for state-of-the-art. Out of the bigger retail chains, I'd take a look at Best Buy.

Radio Shack, Circuit City and Office Depot don't strike me as the kind of places that people go to buy $300+ headsets. Of course, anything's possible.

Like others here, I've bought a number of things from Adam Roth at www.gsmphonesource.com. I've done a lot of business with VDX (Virtual Dynamix) gsm.virtualdynamix.com but Sung and Rick don't stock a helluva lot of phones to sell. Some accessories and a lot of service and firmware upgrades, etc.

Expansys is pretty much a must (as you know.) There's really not too much available here, in the storefront sense, if you're "serious" about your toys. Most of the chains cater to the low-to-middle enduser.

sorry bengalboy i have to go with LarryH....

all the mega store would never carry a phone for 650 bucks... and i hate to admit it but the kiosks like we have tons of them here in manhattan do have these phone but i do NOT at all agree with buying them there... because when they do is they buy them of Ebay and resell them at their stores... and they will charge you a fortune for them...... the first P800 remember traded as high as 1500 bucks on ebay.... so that is when my rational thinking kicks in and i just wait until they are officially released..... I bought my P800 direclty form the Sony Online shop

http://www.sonyericsson.com

paid the fair 650 bucks got some accessories - on ebay they still traded 800+ usd..... i have a buddy of mine that runs one of the kiosk style stores that has tons of cell phone free-250 maybe 300 usd but nothing at all over that... so the freaks here on howardforum buy their phones of of connecitons they made on there or they just pay up on ebay....

fair pricing is always the problem in any hot hot hot artical if you want it first you pay.... that is the way things work in the USA... i started emailing the big ones like amazon and suggested for them to add the p800 to their program.... and they did but since they started offering them and they offered them for a super super price 499.00 with a 1 yr plan only they have been out of stock..... for example lets look at the P610.... most site offer them for 300-350 bucks on sonyericsson they are 349 or 359 i think but check out amazon

79.99 that is 299.00 -50 bucks if you sign a 1 yr plan and 170 bucsk form amazon... (must have bought like 1000-5000 units so they can offer these discounts...) so you end up with the 80 bucks... now that is a super deal for a phone like that....

so all in all if you do not have the internet you are screwed.... i do and do not suggest to use these kiosks unless you know the price... if you have made a conneciton online keep on using that there were so many warranty issue things going on that is the reason why i decided to buy from sonyericsson.com directly.... we have also ordert several phones from amazon here and have not had any major problem with returning phones that did not work the only thing that was VERY negative is some of our guys got screwed on the mail in rebatts..... so that is a lot of money that you are out so if you go with amzon make sure you: a. do not toss out the box the phone can in b. get all the rebats send back IN TIME c. make copies of what you send to them - i am sure alot gets lost and then they claim they never got them d. keep on checking that you WILL get the mail in rebate - the 50 bucks from tmobile was never a problem they all got them but the amazon onces tend to be a headache.

good luck
