Samsung S200 RF performance over SE T616.(and other stuff)

Okay going from a SE T616 to a S200 is a huge change for me, and I have alot of things to compare...kinda feels like I downgraded...Just because I love flip phones.

The downsides:
RF/Reception(In my house) -
This is probably the only thing that I regret in replacing my SE T616(and java games, can't seem to get them in my phone), I have used my S200 for four days and the reception is pretty good BUT had a bad experience in my house, on my main floor I had bad RF cuz durring my phone call(pretty long) my S200 sometimes gets choppy and the person on the other side sometimes cannot hear what I am saying.
Games -
Installing games into my phone is the other thing that is giving me trouble but not really important since I don't really play games. But I have spent 2 days trying to get some Java games installed into my S200, its really a shame that Samsung didn't make a full use of the infrared(for example uploading java games) and the data cable that comes with it is much faster. THERE ARE ALOT OF GAMES THAT I WANT TO PUT INTO MY S200 BUT I CAN'T GET THEM IN!!
Features:
Okok alotta ppl ask my why I gave up such a phone with rich features for a S200, simple, i am 19 yrs old and I guess I don't use alot of those features including Bluetooth and even the built in camera. I wanted a more practical phone such as a S200 but it was a little too practical like no voice recording or notes for example. I find myself playing with my S200 less than my T616 because there is not much to explore.
No Bluetooth"
uhhh...I have absolutely no use for bluetooth(again I think its an age thing) except that I was gonna buy the HBM-30 Bluetooth MP3 player.

The Good Stuff:
Screen -
UBF is slightly prettier(and brighter) than the STN screens on the SE T616, the external 256 color screen on the flip is pretty cool, too bad I cannot change the background picture yet. Outta the colour phones I owned(T616, T720g and S200), it had the smallest screen but the quality of the screen makes up for the size.
Sounds -
Wow! just set 1 level under max and they are still loud and nice, I always like my phones loud and this one is the loudest of all! 1 thing I really liked/notice is that some ringtones that I downloaded/edited have vibrations and blinking lcd that goes with the ringtone's tune.
Apparence -
I absolutely love flipphones and this was another reason why I traded in my T616. Very fine, elegant finish that attracts alotta attention. One example is a bar that I goto, alot of asians go there and so they have alot of flashy phones, I get alot more ppl glaring over to see what kind of phone I have instead of the T616 .
RF/Reception(outdoors) -
Despite the bad experience in my house, the S200 has great reception outdoors and other areas.

Conclusion -
Like everyone says, "if you want style and looks, go with the S200". First time using a Samsung and I feel the experience was pretty positive(finally found a company that does good flip phones!!). This phone has everything you need not want and is an excellent stylish practical phone with great reception.

Other comparisons I made.
SE T616 - IMO, the S200 and T616 are both completely different, depends on what you want(Style vs Features).
Moto T720g - Hands down the S200 is much better than teh T720g(I kno I kno, the T720g is a cheaper phone) in almost every aspect.

Hmph, what do you mean by Bluetooth as an age thing? I am 22, not significantly older than you (right?! heh), and I use Bluetooth to transfer files. I guess you are referring to business people using their Bluetooth headsets and stuff.

I also like flip phones (I LOVE the T28), and am considering getting the Z200 when it comes out to replace the T616. I really don't need the camera and Bluetooth and stuff, I just want a friggin' flip phone! =)

I would've thought 19 year-olds (college students in general) would like the camera. =)

I guess I mean that I never thought of using bluetooth for anything else but transfers(use the infrared on my laptop instead)

I may want to replace my S200 with the z200 too but I didn't find the look as appealing tho hehe.

I guess I didn't really use the camera because I already have a actual digital camera...but my friends always play with my camera(T616)

Wait till you see the SE Z600, it will put the old S200 to shame.

"Wait till you see the SE Z600, it will put the old S200 to shame."

Yes it will, but I think the phone to compare against the Z600 will be the E700(or whatever the hell the north american version will be, currently dual band and not compatible with North american bands)...I am considering choosing between Z600 or E700 in 2 or 3 months later.

I think, in 2004 we will have so many diferent hansets available for us in North Americas, and it is going to make life hard for us. I just hope they give us the right pricing like they do in Europe. You can usually get them unlocked for the same price of locked. As an example, An unlocked Smasung SGH-V200 costed a friend of mine $375 while ATTW and T Mobile sells the V206 at $399 to current customers as they don't qualify for the new customer discounts.

its great seeing how we went opposite ways
on this one, with me, it was the other way around

and i noticed the EXACT same thing for the RF of the S200 is choppy indoors while the T616 is flawless, but with more background noise

anyways, i dont think ill ever go back.
some good info and insight on the topic

good job flipmatic
