S56 turning itself off

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I did a search about this, but never really read a clear answer as to why this is happening.

My girlfriend has a S56 and at times, it just turns itself off. Has anyone experienced this and if she is past her 30 day conversion, is there anything she can do?

Does she have "auto off" turned on?

menu/setup/phone setup/auto off

I will have to check, but if it is, I will turn it off.

My S56 turns off randomly, as does my wife's. It's really annoying to be expecting a call all day and then realize that the phone wasn't even on. And of course it makes the alarm clock feature worthless.

This is one of the many reasons why I think the S56 is a pile of crap. I had a Siemens landline phone once and it was crap too. Perhaps they are just a crappy company.

Maybe you just got it from a bad batch? Anywho, out of curiousity, did it always do that since you have had the phone, or did it just start happening out of the blue one day? Also if you dont mind, whats your s/w version, date, variant and stuff.

I know my girlfriend has had her's about a month and a half and it just started doing it recently. I guess your suggestion about the auto off doesn't have anything to do with that? I haven't checked her auto off yet, but I would think that has to do with progamming your phone to turn off at a specific time.

Someone said it might have to do with being in a area without a signal for a period of time, which in turn, turns the phone off.

Very annoying.

Yeah, probably not the auto-off feature then, just thought I'd put it out there in the case that she may have forgot about it.

as for the no signal thing, i guess that would make sense to conserve the battery, but i dont know why they would do that when you can just turn off the phone yourself. Some crazy bug/flaw maybe.

My phone (and my wife's phone) has always had this problem. It happens maybe a few times a month. I plan to call Cingular at some point and see if they can replace the phone or update the software or something.

SW-Version: 06.
SW-Date: 2003-04-24

Dang, and I just bought one. Coming in the mail. It should be here Tuesday. I really hope it doesn't turn itself off too! =(

lol, i just got one last week. i was thinking the exact same thing. but so far so good.

I am on my second S56. The first one would turn off at random times. The brand new replacement from cingular was working fine at first. Now I can expect it to shut off 3-4 times a week. I really like this phone especially that you can see the screen while it is in standby but if my third one craps out like the first 2 I might have to get the T616.

bringing this back from the dead... did anyone from at&t's network experience the same problem?>?

Posted by: esperantinc

yup.

thats why mine is going back to best buy tomorrow.

Turning off auto timezone seemed to fix my problem. The phone has not shut off since.

I'm on at&t, have the phone for about a month. It shuts off, not randlomly, but predictably for me. There's one spot on the 73 toll road (in california), where if I'm using the phone, it just shuts off. (near the aliso creek exit, where the walls come up)

It doesn't happen anywhere else, at least, I don't think it does ??

Yep, the first one I got for my daughter did exactly the same thing. Took it back to ATTWS store and got a replacement works great. don't don't if there is any connection, but with the first one the camera attachment didn't work either, kept giving 'service denied' errors.

I am still awaiting my camera attachment, so I dont know about that one yet. But I have had mine for almost 2 months now, and here about 2 weeks ago I noticed that it shut off. Then here lately it started again. I called the siemens CC. They told me that because I was in an area of low signal, that this was causing the phone to shut off. Though I have never heard of this before, the other day I did notice that after I dropped a call and lost signal, that it shut off.
