UIQ 2.1 in P800 Future

There's been speculation here regarding whether the next big firmware update for the P800, whenever that will be (Adam still has us hanging in another thread on that one), will include UIQ 2.1.

Esato also has some threads on this which, when summarized, contain 2 different reasons why it may not happen:

1. The "SE won't do it" theory. SE promised this back in April and pulled it, saving it for the P810, presumably so we would switch from the 800 to the 810.

2. The "SE can't do it" theory. The differences between the 800 and the 810 are such that while UIQ is possible on the 810, it isn't on the 800.

Opinions?

I don't see any technical barriers to running UIQ 2.1 on the P800. It's just the interface that runs on top of the OS. If it can run on the P810/P900 then it can run on the P800.

i think what he meant was that what is the point of releasing a firmware to upgrade the p800 firmware for uiq 2.1 when you can just purchase the 810/900

I understood what he meant. I addressed one of his questions... that's all.

oops sorry about that (wasnt flaming you though) sorry for misunderstanding

Yes, FrozenStar is indicating that the "SE can't do it" theory likely is not correct. That leaves us with the "SE won't do it" theory. Hopefully that theory won't prove true, and the next big upgrade will take us to the UIQ 2.1 promised land.
