I just bought a mio 8380 and was wondering how the camera quality on it is. Can you transfer pics to the computer afterwards as well? The other question is, with the video, i'm guessing it doesn't record sound witht the clip does it? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys

1. Why are you asking this instead of just trying it out?

Since you asked, however, it's no problem...

In my opnion, camera quality is just okay - the images are visible, but resolution is pretty low...even a budget digital camera will give you much better pictures...

But since most phone cameras all take crappy pictures, I think this is no worse than the rest...

The video recorder DOES record sound - I was surprised by this but it works...it even comes through the external speaker when you are playing things back.

Very easy to transfer to your computer once you have the Activesync working...just open up "my computer" and find "mobile device" and then cut and paste as needed...

Thanks man, yeah, i just bought it but its still being shipped to me so i would try it out if I could. Would you say that pictures are comparable to the mca-25 for the t68i? I used to have that, so i'm just wondering if its better or worse.

Hmm...

I haven't used the mca-25, so I can't give a direct comparison - but maybe this will help:

The camera on a T610 has a max resolution of something like 320 x 240, which is the same as on the Mitac.

In reviews of the T610, most people say that the camera is capable, but ultimately not amazing...

I think it is safe to say the Mitac's camera is in the same class.

one more question...hehe, can you transfer video clips to the computer as well? and can you play them in windows media player? oops, i guess that was 2 questions.

Yes you can transfer the clips to your computer and play them in Windows media player. Works very well.

One odd thing I've found though, is when I've tried to e-mail video clips that the receiving party is having trouble opening them.

Not sure what kind of encoding is used, and I'm really not sure why it's even an issue...I mean the person I'm sending to is running the latest versions of XP and has downloaded various codec suppliments.

Maybe the needed codecs are only included with the Mio software cd? Hmm...if you have any ideas about this, please let me know.

i'll update you as soon as i get the phone! haha

There's a proprietory Windows Media Player codec on the Mio CD's (the 2nd CD, I heard). In order to play the recorded video chips on your friend's computer, you need to install that codec on your friend's computer as well.

Where did you guys buy the Mio? I couldn't find any retailer in U.S. for that phone.

I happened to be in Hong Kong and picked it up there.

I was looking to purchase a mio from the US a while back but now looking at the SPV E200. Anyway here are some sites that might help.

Phonescoop is one place to look (See shop for this phone).

Other smartphones on phonescoop
MPX200 http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=315

the camera pics are just like any other phone..they're good only for fun shots

btw, even though the gd88 takes only low res pics, i still find my gd88 pics are better than that taken by my mio and the v200

i also find the gd88's screen nicer....
