What's involved in getting ringtones and images onto the s56?

I'm thinking about getting this phone and I've read that there are some issues with this? something to do with protected folders....

If my laptop has irda, then am I ok and shouldn't have any problems getting ringtones and images onto the phone? And is this all done with the Siemens software?

Also am wondering if using the software, can you pull all your address book info onto the PC as a backup, and would you be able to send it back to the phone (for whatever reason).

Does the software have a ring tone editor or is there one on the phone itself?

What would be involved in taking a picture of someone and getting it into a format good for the phone (to use when that person calls you)?

Sorry, lots of questions I know, please answer anything you can, thank you

I believe if you send graphics/ringtones to the phone, you wont be able to save it in your MyData folder, but you can save it on the phone none the less, just in the designated folder the phone takes you too. You wouldnt be able to use the graphics/ringtones to send via MMS, IrDA, Bluetooth. A simple way to get around this is that by just renaming the file extension to .vmo. Then you can save the files anywhere within your MyData folder and rename the file extension to whatever they file actually is. Oh yeah, I dont think you use the Siemens software for that. You just go on your computer and send file. (but i use bluetooth, not sure if IrDA is the same, but someone else should be able to answer that).

I send files via IR to my S56 from my laptop regularly. I just open the 'Wireless Link' icon on my desktop when the IR ports are lined up (and the IR is activated on the S56). Select and send the file just like it was another laptop with IR.

On the phone, the file goes into one of the folders (I think it is 'Data Objects'). Open that folder, select the item, then save it to the folder for that type of file - if it is a ringtone, wallpaper, or color scheme, it automatically picks the correct folder for you. Pretty easy.
