I have a Sanyo SCP-6000. On the back of the manufacturer's battery, I see a small circle screen. Underneath it, I see pink and Xs in dark pink. Is that an indication that the battery is wearing out?

No its not, its a water sensor, it tells them when the phone gets wet so they don't have to replace it. It changes to like white or red or something when it touches water.

Correct.
It should be white with a little bit of red crosses on it.
When it gets wet the red bleeds onto the white turning the whole thing pink and fuzzy. Very useful piece.

I love that red sticker...I've used it sooooo many times. Customer comes in, says they are having problems with the phone, and they don't know whats wrong. I take off the battery, but don't say anything. Then ask them if they dropped it in water, and their face lights up, they say no of course, but then I explain how the sticker works, and they say, well, it might have, but I'm not sure. I cant tell you how many times this comes in my store. (RadioShack).
