i don't actually have it yet hence the question
once the settings are changed/background img etc., there is no way to tell it was a cingular phone right? i.e. if i etch off all outside markings etc?

taking the cingular emblem might be a challenge...

You won't be able to remove the cingular logo unless you remove the faceplate and scratch it off from the inside.
