Ringtone volume

Just wondering if anybody else has this problem. I have the Audiovox 8500. If I turn up the volume on the Virgin theme ringtone it sounds distorted like the speaker is going to blow. So I leave it at about level 3 but it's hard to hear when it rings and the vibration mode is very weak. Even the other ringtones with the volume higher than 3 are still hard to hear from my pocket.

If you have the quiet ringer(s) issue, check to see if you have the updated software. Run a search in there as I do not remember the exact software version to date. All 8500's purchased after April 2003 should have the newest software already preloaded into the unit(s).

As far as the "distortion" you're hearing on certain ringtones, this is completely normal. You do have to realize that the earpiece speaker is not tuned to produce exceptional audible qualities.

The weak vibration mode is a known trait on the 8500's..

But will this distortion blow out or harm the speaker? That's what I'm worried about. It kind of sounds like it's about to blow out.

I believe they use polyphonic ringtones? Long-term, I couldn't speculate. If you do tend to have incoming calls often, best you adjust the ringer volume for clarity, rather than loudness. Try to download and/or use the basic ringer tones as opposed to musical melodic ones, as they do tend not to be quite as loud. Musical ringtones tend to blend into background noise so seemingly, they will always appear quieter than a phone ring.
