Tungsten T3!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: gohabsgo

I heard the Tungsten T3 is "officially" coming out October 1. From all the pictures and early reviews, it looks like this is the Palm to have. My old m515 got stolen last Spring, and I think my wait to replace it is over. Anyone got one yet???? What do you think about it????

Check out www.palminfocenter.com. Their forums section has tons of posts in the palm forum from people who have already bought it.

Apparently there are a lot of UI tweaks that make it very handy but some people have reported the battery is substandard for the big screen. I kinda have upgrade fever but a lousy battery does nothing for me. I think I'll wait at least the three months until OS6 is released and see what feature set it incorporates.

North Point Office Max in Atlanta has them on display and ready to go for $399.

For those in Canada:

Futureshop has it on their website:

T3 ($599.99)

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...d=&newdeptid=19

E ($299.99)

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...d=&newdeptid=19

Zire 21 ($149.99)

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...d=&newdeptid=19

More official info on the new handhelds at PalmOne

http://www.palmone.com/us/products/handhelds/

Staples Canada has the Zire 71 price drop to $399 from $449 and I'm sure many others will follow once the new Palms come. Costco sells the Zire 71 at $399.

Of course, these prices are in Canadian dollars.

i WAS going to get the h2210, but now i might get the TT3.

Got the T3 yesterday - OfficeMax.com $399 - $50 online coupon = $349. Pretty good deal in my book. Check dealcoupon.com for this online coupon, and others. Ordered Oct. 1, delivered Oct. 2...

The T3 is great - puts my old (stolen last spring) m515 to shame! The 320x480 display is simply awesome. It is built solidly and has a great feel to it, unlike some of the recent plastic-cased Palms. I am so glad that I waited for the T3...

Battery life OK so far - you can turn down screen brightness nearly all the way and it still looks great! Haven't used Bluetooth yet, though...

Word of warning if you are accessorizing - Palm has a new hard case especially for the T3, apparently the old T1/T2 hard case is too small. OfficeMax and the other stores haven't realized this yet - they tried to sell me an old one as a "recommended accessory"...

can't wait for your "full" review

Got the T|3... works great.. swtiched out the Graf 2 to Graf 1.

Battery life needs work... a lot of work.

Cannot seem to connect to WAP via T-Zones (yet I was able to do so in minutes w/ an Ipaq).. if anyone has gotten this to work on a Palm OS v5 device, please post.

How is the battery life? Can you play some music, while playing a game for 30 minutes and still have some battery life to make it the rest of the day? If the bluetooth is turned off does it save some battery life, or is it the great color screen with it's high resolution that is eating the battery? Really considering getting the T3 or the new sony 50, use it for medical stuff ( Drug Books )but when things are slow I like to play games ( Dope Wars ) and listen to music on the pda's... Any comments on Battery life would be great to here from some of you fellow gadget geeks

Day 2: I am finally able to use the Net. I can send SMS- but I cannot retrieve them from my N3650... working on that. I was able to install the Blazer browser (and old, old browser) which is faster

I installed Graf 1 following directions from www.palminfocenter.com The slider is quite stiff, which is good b/c i prefer to keep it open... but it is hard to close. Was able to listen to mp3s.. the sound was okay (could benefit from a progrm w/ an equalizer). Avantgo 5 Beta works okay as long as you do not try any wireless browsing... or it will crash. Battery life still blows i will need to get a travel kit.

I see that the T-3 is now out.

I know it is new and I have yet had a chance to play with it, but I have a question to ask someone who has one - it relates to the new Contacts feature.

I have migrated everything to Outlook 2002 - I put my Contacts in subfolders (as with Palm addresses in folders) for ease in finding names. I want to sync up w/Outlook 2002 with my addresses in seperate folders and I understand the new Contacts program will accept more than one address and more phone numbers than the old Palm Desktop software did.

I know the bundled T-3 software directly syncs Palm with Outlook 2002 w/o the use of 3rd party software. The subfolder issue is my concern.

Can someone comment on this.

My local OfficeMax has not put it out on display as of this AM.

The best thing about the T3 is that Best Buy here in Colorado Springs is unloading some T1 for $219, and I considered getting one of them to use with my spare cell phone via Blue Tooth (SE T616).

That would make for a much better browsing solution than my 7135, but I am too used to my 7135 as a comprehensive package that I decided to wait.

I want to see the reviews comparing the T3 with the Tapwave Zodiac before I move to another palm device. If I get a T3 or Zodiac, I could sell my 7135 to finance the purchase, and use my T616 with bluetooth to connect to the net, or use my wife's VX6000 with a cable to surf the net at faster 1x speeds instead of the 7135 (I could give her back her old V60c if I took the VX6000).

Have to ask myself one question - do I wanna carry both my home (7135) and business (T616) phones like I do now, plus stuff a palm device in my pocket too - or do I keep a converged device with everything in it like my 7135.

I already switched from using the 7135 as my MP3 player in favor of a iPod with 15gb storage. Even with three 256mb SD cards, I couldn't decide what music to bring with me.

One thing I do know, gomadic.com makes a cable to connect the T3 to my 7135 if I want to use a palm OS3 device to coonnect at 1x speeds, but I don't know about a cable to let the Zodiac connect to a kyocera phone. Anyone know what type of connector the tapwave uses?

yay, my t3 is coming on oct23!

Posted by: rip

congrats...looking forward to your review

Well, I went with the T3 since it is no bigger than my spare treo 90! I think the tapwave zodiac will be too big for carrying everywhere in a pocket. I use the T3 with my T616 phone via BT, and sold the 7135. I re-activated my VX6000 for my personal verizon account, so I carry a small VX6000 and a tiny T616 on my belt, and the T3 sits in my front pocket.

yep... since I got the T|3 I *gasp* suddenly find my N3650 to be a bit bulky. I think I might like to get a smaller BT-enabled phone since the added bulk is now unnecessary.

Noooooooo, don't leave!!!!

Posted by: curtis_tom

actually my T3 ships out on oct. 23 and arrives on oct.24. bah! i can't wait to get it in my hands!

i wish the drivers for the wifi SD will be released sometime soon!

Posted by: curtis_tom

BAH!!! ugh!!! stupid delays!!! GRR!!! my supplier got a hold of 10 of them, but i was 12th in line to get it! UGH! soooooo stupid!

Wierd, I simply walked into Best buy and compUSA the day they were released and they both had them - did you get some kinda super duper low price?

depends on his location...

hey
i'd really appreciate it if u t3 owners could give me some info:

1) can u explain in detail the functions of the SMS and Dialer programs on the t3? can a make and receive calls? can i make and receive text messages?

2)where can i find this extended battery for the t3? im sur eill need it with its crappy battery life.

thx

Posted by: karibOS

I can dial numbers from my address book w/ the dialer. If I had a BT headset, I could also talk w/o picking up my phone. For now, it is a lazy way to make calls w/o using my address book in my phone.

Depending on your phone.... I can send SMS w/ my T|3... but on my N3650, I cannot seem to retrieve them. Other phones might be able to do this.

The T|3 battery is not removable, so I doubt there can be an extended battery.

I always try www.palmgear.com or www.palmone.com

Posted by: larryganz

It is called "Power to Go" and is made by Palm, and it is a piggyback battery that charges the internal battery and gives you 2-3x the battery life - I got one off ebay for half price a month ago. Retail is like $99, I won an auction for half that.

Posted by: dobi

1) is it really worth it?
2) how bulky does it feel?
3) without it, would i be able to go a day with normal usage?

4) can i charge a t3 and use it without the computer cradle?

Posted by: larryganz

It is worth it,

it ads about 0.4 - 0.5 inches to the thickness (not bad) and you can leave it attached to use the T3 or remove it - it is small enough to put in your pants pocket and not mind it

It has a pass thru palm connector, it can charge the T3 from dead to full in about 3-4 hours and you don't need the cradle to charge the T3, but you use the cradle to charge the power to go (or a USB charge cable)

and without it you can get just about 1 day of hard use (3-4 hours) out of the T3

Posted by: curtis_tom

i got my T3!!! w00t! finally...so far i noticed the batt life does drain a bit faster than it would using my old m500. more details to come w/ my T3

Posted by: Midnight Sun

battery life sucks.. enough said

besides that, the T3 is phenomenal in my opinion. ill make a full review soon...

Posted by: curtis_tom

hehe i still haven't posted my full review yet. lol. ok, i figured out my BT was on so it drained a bit faster than usual. anyhow, now w/ it turned off, it's a bit better, but still not the best! i wonder if there is a way to maybe extend it a bit longer.

PowerToGo

Posted by: curtis_tom

wowsers! hopefully there will be a way to make the device handle the load a bit more efficiently in terms of power usage through software.

yes, but then it would be larger and heavier. people would then say, it is soooooo large and soooo heavy.

Posted by: larryganz

I only use my Power to Go to recharge the T3 for 2-3 hours, not to leave connected all the time.

Also, turning off BT does make a significant improvement in battery life for my T3. I haven't measured it, but will soon. I only need to turn on BT when I check my email or sync, so I will leave it off more.

Posted by: curtis_tom

hm, yah i think if u mix up the usage for the T3 w/ BT on and off, the battery does drain a bit faster. i noticed it when i had BT on for a bit and then switched BT off. but on another day, i had BT off and it was fixed at 100%, which is pretty darn good!

another problem i have. i keep getting "Fatal Exception" errors a lot and it wouldn't reset until I force it to reset! I think it's my old Palm OS 4 software stuff that is causing the problems!

Posted by: larryganz

What I wish the T3 had was a setting to leave BT off and just turn on when the device tries to connect out- i.e. to the cell phone or computer to sync, but otherwise it could be off and not looking for a signal all the time for incoming signals, etc...
