SE T616 Review

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i've been using the t616 for a few days so here's what i've found:

t616 reception so far has been pretty good. i have the AT&T version w/ the latest firmware. the rf bars are really jumpy on the screen, but i'm used to that since that's how it is on my s105. i like that it's being honest w/ how the reception is, and as many have mentioned, even if the phone has 0 bars showing (but shows T-Mobile on the display) I can still make a clear call. While rf wise it is not the strongest performer, it is by no means bad and I am nowhere near the frustration I had w/ the t68i. If the t616 does go into an area w/o reception and then back to an area w/ service, it finds the signal pretty fast.

battery life so far has been good, it seems like i can last 3-4 days while averaging 45 min-1 hr of talking each day... this also includes playing w/ the phone a lot so the screen is on often. The screen is beautiful and SE did a great job of navigating the phone very friendly--colors are used well on every screen, and i like that i can customize the theme myself. i thought Samsung did a good job of using their 65k screens but the SE i think is a lot better.

polyphonic tones are nice and loud, altho i find the music dj software pretty useless. everything is already set so basically you're combining preset beats w/ preset riffs. i'm ok w/ preset percussion beats but i'd like to be able to make my own melodies

bluetooth works great! at least w/ my motorola headset, i haven't had any problems connecting it and using it. loving the bluetooth headset using the IR it's been easy to upload graphics, tones, and java games--and i really like that it automatically puts whatever you upload into the correct group. the IR seems to be faster than any of my other phones too.

camera is pretty nice option to have, although i don't use it much. at night it doesn't seem to work very well, i tried the "night" option but for me it didn't help much--but i only tried on one pic so maybe it was just htat one time.

finally, the aluminum body is great, and i love the look when the phone is on the CDS-11 stand. the feature set on this phone is amazing and now that the price is dropping it makes it a great buy. if you just need the good rf, bluetooth, and some color, the Siemens S56 is definitely a phone to look at. however, if you're looking for a much nicer, crisper color screen and an integrated camera, i think it's worth the extra money to get the t616. now if only i could decide b/w the t616 and sl56...i can't get past the ProSlide, it's so niice:P

The SL56 is overrated. Sure, its extremely tiny and cool looking, but its plastic and the buttons just dont really press well. Feels cheap compared to the t616.

wow, great review, still trying to decide on a t616/t610 or maybe a samsung s200.

dunno which one though...

i had the s300, it didn't really impress me much..didn't like having to hold down the volume buttons to see the time, and it didnt offer any new features that i needed that my s105 didn't have--i'd recommend the t616/t610 over the s200.

heh...
i had a t616 and t610 both on rogers at&t, in my house i couldnt get 1bar wherever i went, i would have to run outside w/ my ears covered to hear the other end, yes its full of feauters but its paper weight in my house/area.

the sl56 yes it is made to be advertised w/ its "cool proslider" but u know what? i can make calls in my house/basement and for u ppl on hofo that know me, most phones cant do this. sl56 does feel cheap, the slides get lose, ugly screen, but nice sound quality at 1bar, and solid rf.

i guess if ur into a phone thats fun to play with, and wont work in most areas grab a t616

my t616 works fine in my basement with great sound quality, needs to be a little bit louder, but other than that the reception is good.

T616 surely is a nice phone. But only good for the first week you get it. Once you get bored with the camera and other features, you will then find that the ringtone is SO low in volume, reception is not that good. It's decent enough but not the best. At least not what you should get for paying $500.
S200 on the other hand does not have all the features like camera and BT, but it perform well in all other fields like ringtone, reception and size.

I went from S300 to T610, now back to S200, and will never go back

ah bring ur t616 to a area w/ weak rf, where strong rf phones get 1or2 bars, see what ur t616 says

and my basment/area is like no other where 3/4 of the phones i use dont work, its horrible.
and yes the s200/s300 gets the job done np

I dun hv reception problem with my T616, I think it is still better than my T68i R8A firmware (My T616 is R1A).

The camera is cool, but not so great, there us no zoom and it's too slow, after I take one pic, i need to wait like 3-4sec , decie to save or discard, then ready to take another pic...so I need like 7-8 second to taje the 2nd picture. Too slow.

The colour is great. 65000 colour is really cool.

I give 8/10 for it.

The 616 is an awesome phone. I had a few issues with mine....for one it's always dirty. Secondly I found the earpiece volume to low in loud places.

But overall in bang for the buck....it's fantastic.

I liked the size and functionality, but it would pick up way too much background noise - often the background noise would be louder than my voice.

The display was nice, but smudged way too easily and eventually it had a scratchy look to it all the time (would clean right off, but then i was spending more time cleaning the display to read it when it was sunny) .. not designed for grubby people ..

The keys were kinda small (designed for asians i think) and the joystick pretty sensitive.

The camera was pretty much useless. Not bad if you're taking a still shot, but too easy to blur - resolution was so-so, and had problems getting the bluetooth to sync correctly. Not a bad entry overall, but probably only worth about $50.
