what, no alarm clock???

i recently subscribed with spcs and bought a sanyo 8100. it is my first non-nokia phone ever and so far, i like it except for two things: 1.there seems to be no alarm; 2.i can't set the time to my liking.

i've found that i can have the phone remind me to call a certain person at a specific time but that is more a bandaid than a real solution. i have a hard time believing that this phone doesn't have an alarm clock or a user-programmable clock. can anyone please help?!? thanks!

Yea it's in the phone

Go through the calender select a day -> click options -> add event - > SCH event.

Then set it.

The phone should of came with a user manual too so check in there for further instructions.

well, i just checked out the calendar fxns and the options are:
set date
set weekly
reset date
reset weekly
reset all

i appreciate your help dark but i think what you described to me is a similar procedure to the "call alarm" fxn. it really isn't much of an alarm clock; it wouldn't wake me out of a dead sleep nor can i snooze it without going through three or four keystrokes. i know people out there are saying "buy a damn alarm clock!" and i know that it may come to that. i have my phone with me at all times and so if i can make the most of it, i'd like to.

does anyone know how to user program the clock?

and yes, i did read the WHOLE user's manual and there is no provision for either an alarm clock or changing the time.

Most, if not all phones operating on the Sprint network lack a provision for setting the time manually. This is because CDMA-based systems require very precise time synchronization between the base stations and handsets for CDMA to work. Setting the time manually would have no effect if you were in a service area, since the local cell would overwrite any time you chose to tell the phone it was. The only useful function of setting the time would be if you were in an area with no service whatsoever and still wanted a clock. As far as I know, this is not included on the 8100 (or the Samsung a600 or a500, for that matter).

Sanyo has made the odd decision not to include an alarm clock in their phones (or Sprint has neutered any such functionality that may once have been built in). I cannot say why this has been done -- I can only sympathize with you, as I, too, need a non-stop alarm to wake up, not some ten-second Scheduler alert beep.

In lieu of switching to a Samsung handset (all of which provide three seperate alarm clocks), you could visit the Applications section of 3GUpload, which offers a free alarm clock utility for PCS Vision phones.

thanks for the info about downloading the app. i've thought about getting a samsung but i've heard that the sanyo's have the best RF reception (and i'm too cheap to pay for the premium). thanks for the help!

I can set mine to ring or beep everyday at whatever time I want.

Instead of call number you click schedule event.

i use my 8100 as an alarm clock by setting up an event, and then using the most annoying ring on there (#2). i usually set a couple of events and make them repeat daily. probably not the fix you wanted, but it works for me.

I believe that 3Gupload requires a $5.95 one-time donation before anything can be downloaded. Correct me if I am wrong.

No! All you need to do is browse to their site (3gupload.com) from your phone, and login with your user name. Then download from there. The donations supposedly give you text messages whenever you select something for download (which bugs me, since it keeps popping up the notification thing )

I personally keep my Nokia around specifically for its alarm clock. Haven't paid for any more time on it since I was in Baltimore. I tried out the app on 3gupload w/ my 8100, and it was a no go. It just sits there, says "alarm" on the screen, but makes no noise, no blinking, no nothing. I tried at one time, taking my longest ringers, and setting 5 events, once every 10 minutes one day...it barely woke me up, and even then it was such a pain. Nokia: menu-down-down-down-menu-down-menu-menu-settime-menu
and it will sit there, vibing, beeping to hell and back, for like 2 hours if i don't turn it off. Now -that- is an alarm!

yeah, i'm with rad shack, i'm keeping my 8390 around for the very same reason. the alarm on the sanyo is just poo and so is the ultility on 3gupload. i didn't know that we could get aorund the "donation" however. oh well, it went to a good cause (i hope!)

The donation at 3GUpload isn't a requirement...it just sends a txt message to your phone, and when you view it, it takes you directly to your download locker. You can get all the stuff you want, but you have to navigate there yourself without the donation.

That is what I did during the huge blackout that we had. I set it for different times in case the first didn't wake me. It took longer a little longer but I was thankful to get to work on time.
