I know T28 World is a pretty old phone, but I wish whoever had the same problem and solved it, PLEASE let me know. Reply here or via email, or links of threads are appreciated.
Problem:
When my battery is down to about 1/2 or 1/3 full, the phone will beep at random duration, sometimes once per 10 minutes, sometimes once per 30 seconds, and meanwhile the message "Ericsson Optimized Charging" will display on screen for about 0.3 second then gone. I guess the phone is trying to remind me to recharge the battery, but too frequently reminding me and beep everytime is indeed ANNOYING, especially when I don't want to mute the phone.
Information I can give:
1) Battery: Original Ericsson battery, ultra-slim Li-Poly BUS-10 500mAh, that comes with my T28 World.
2) Software Version: 000531 (May 31, 2000). Checked by using >*<<*<* code.
Question:
1) What causes this problem?
2) Will update the phone's software eliminate this problem? If yes, which version will do? Otherwise, how to solve this problem?
Referring to my 2nd question, I've heard updating the firmware/software of T28 World requires NOT the normal data cable ($3-4 on eBay), but a service cable ($10 on eBay) which is capable of unlocking, changing IMEI, flashing, etc. Also, the phone needed to be unlocked first before attempting to flash with newer firmware. Can someone verify this? On the other hand, where can I find/download the firmware uploading software and latest firmware which will 100% work? I see some users saying certain flashing software isn't working perfectly. E.g. Phone's firmware is halfway (or nearly all) updated and the phone is no longer responding, like a dead phone.
If any of you know how to fix my problem at the lowest cost/risk, PLEASE let me know (email would be the BEST, at:
super_isdn@hotmail.com
)
I've heard someone said Ericsson will update the firmware at $35 by mailing the phone to them, but this is my only phone and I can't work without my phone. Also I still don't know if update the firmware will fix my problem or not.
So...pls advise me. Thank you

I used my T28W for 3 years, I was really sick of it. Though, it was a kick-a#s
phone compared with other models, back in year 2000 when I bought it.
I spent USD 20 this year, just to get the SP lock removed (so I could use it with T-Mobile). Initially
I was going to buy an IAT-10 to improve the RF but it wasn't easy to get, so I gave up early. Aside from the "charging" message you mentioned, this
thing would kick me over to AT&T's network (SOS only) all the time, and wouldn't go back to my designated home network by itself.
Especially when I would accidentally touch the external antenna. Anyway, if you're thinking of spending $35 for a firmware
update, I have a feeling you can buy a newer, better (locked) phone for the same amount of money ... check out the Ericsson T39, it does GPRS and BT! Larry.

That's really strange and bothering..... have you changed the setting under (I just take a wild guess):
Settings -> Networks -> Preferred Nets ?
For me, I think I will just tolerate the stupid "optimized charging beep" for 1 more year (because I recently changed my rate plan from the very old original one to a much better one), and then change my phone, #, and SP.
I don't want to change my phone now coz I couldn't get a phone with color screen, camera, and polyphonic ringtones for FREE until I start a brand new rate plan

Yeah, of course I restricted the settings (i.e. only had the MNCs of my provider in the list),
and tried both Auto and Manual. My SE T66 did a similar thing (preferred to join
a non-home network i.e. ATT, and not come back to home) whenever I went
across a spot of poor Cingular/Voicestream tower reception. My SE T226 and the
Nokia 3100 are much better in that respect. LC
