SCP-4000 Not receiving Telus Signal

We just got Telus PCS service in our town in B.C. late this summer. I bought an SCP-4000 which was supposed to be working just fine in Toronto but will not pick up any signal right next to the cell site! Any idea why not and how I can fix it? Telus tells me the phone is faulty (Telus has told me a lot of stuff, most of which isn't true). The seller says no way. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Sorry, I forgot to add that this is a Clearnet phone. It says so on the phone and on the display screen.

Well, I found the answer. Telus cheaped out on our "new" coverage and only put in 800mhz CDMA and not even analog. My tri-mode works fine, but the Sanyo won't.

Too bad!
