Ok, I have just received my brand new mitac mio 8380, and have put my at&t sim card in it. I have no idea how to work this phone and the chinese manuals don't help at all. Can someone please tell me step by step how to get started with this thing. I have the 2 cd's and have tried to install on my computer but something wasnt working. I tried setting up the proxy and everything that was on another post but still cant get access to the internet. I'm sure this is a real stupid question to most of you guys but I am new to all this, and especially new to this phone. Any help will be great. so help PLEASE!!!

Unfortunately I only have an SPV and not a Mio 8380 and I don't live in the US but I'll try and put something together that might help. This is how I would setup the GPRS using Smartphone 2002 on the SPV. The main problems will be the WAP/MMS as the mio uses jbrowser and jmms applications instead of the EZOS apps on the SPV. There is very liitle information about these mio apps so I don't know what the available options are. The user manuals don't give much away either. Anyway here goes.

Important: Confirm with your network provider that you have access to ALL GPRS services (internet/WAP and MMS).

1 Set the IE explorer to auto detect settings.
Programs - Internet Explorer
menu-Options-Connections
Tick 'Automatically detect settings'

2 Create a GPRS internet connection

Programs-Settings-Data Connection
menu-Edit Connections

Create GPRS connection.
Description: ATT Internet
Connects to: The Internet
Access point: proxy
User name: (blank)
Password: (blank)
Primary DNS:
Secondary DNS:
IP address: (blank)

In data connections
Internet Connection: ATT Internet

You should now be able to access HTML pages using HTTP.
Test it with http://www.google.com

3. Create a WAP proxy

Programs-Settings-Data Connection
menu-Edit Connections

Create proxy connection
Description: ATT proxy
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP network
Proxy (nameort): 10.250.250.250:9203
Type: WAP
Username: blank
Password: blank

You should be able to access WAP pages using HTTP
Test it with http://www.google.com/wml
(if it fails try 10.250.250.250:9201)

4 Create a GPRS WAP connection
Create GPRS connection.
Description: ATT WAP
Connects to: WAP Network
Access point: proxy
User name: (blank)
Password: (blank)
Primary DNS:
Secondary DNS:
IP address: (blank)

In data connections
WAP connection: ATT WAP

You should now be able to access WAP pages using WSP
wsp://www.google.com/wml
(WSP may not be applicable on mio but try it anyway)

There will also be Jbrowser settings too but I don't know what options are available in there.

MMS will also include jmms setup on the mio. Again I don't know much about this app but I would try something like this. Where I have put a ? just select the available option.

Programs-Settings-Data Connection
menu-Edit Connections

Create GPRS connection.
Description: ATT MMS
Connects to: MMS connection
Access point: proxy
User name: (blank)
Password: (blank)
Primary DNS:
Secondary DNS:
IP address: (blank)

Select Programs
jMMS (enter)
Settings (enter)
Profile (enter)

MMS Profile=(select profile ?)

Edit Profile

MMSC= http://mmsc.mobile.attwireless.net
Data Connection=(select data connection ?)
Gateway=WAP 1.0 Gateway
IP Address: 10.250.250.100
Port: 9203
Encoding=Binary

left key to apply
left key to "Done" to save settings

There wiill be a lot more playing about with these settings required before the mio is fully configured and working properly but I hope it gives you a start.

Good Luck

Sorry no idea on MMS I also can not get MSN or my Inbox working yet .

Chinese characters - I think you may have installed a Chinese option program try removing the extra programs one by one - to see if it reverts also check the language setting
