Problems with SL56 Ringer Volume?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was wondering if anyone is experiencing a similar problem, or would know how to fix this. I just got the SL56, and I am having problems keeping the volume of certain ringtones at its highest level. When I set a ringtone located in any of the ringtones sub folders, they are EXTREMELY quiet. I have set all ringers for all incoming calls to the loudest they go, but when a call is received they are still VERY low. The ringers are very loud when I am previewing them, but when I set them, they are almost silent. Any ideas how to fix this?

i don't have this problem...just wanted to make sure about this tho--(i know this may sound stupid, not at all trying to point out something obvious -- but i made this mistake once) but if you keep hitting up on the volume setting it goes from the highest to the softest...like they put the softest ring right above the highest (inidicated by the little bars)... but i have no problems w/ any ringtones i've uploaded

Thanks....I have done the same thing, but this time I am sure they are all at their highest.....It is fine for some ringers, but some just will not ring loud.......

hmm; if it works for some...i know that my mario midi is really soft, but it was like that on all my phones so that never bothered me...maybe some instruments don't play as loud on the sl56 or something?

hmm...sorry i cant be of more help

Maybe I should exchange it for a new one to see if its just this phones issue......?

I had a similar problem... my incoming message tone was very quite no matter what volume setting I selected. Turns out when you set the volume for the message tone, you are actually setting the MAXIMUM volume. Message tones are always played with ascending volume. If your ringtone is too short (like mine was), it never has time to get louder.

Thanks for that input...I think that may be what my problem is....Even the few ringers that do get loud on my phone are ascending, even though I do not have that option selected....i have the maximum ringing volume selected, however it always is ascending....it seems like a software problem....Maybe I need to get that upgraded...I honestly do not know....

Ok . . . I'm still getting this problem of low ring tone. It's really annoying because I've been missing my calls. I just want a simple loud midi ring, nothing special. Anyone have any more ideas?

Posted by: babychai

have you tried switching profiles?

normal/quiet/noisy?

bottom left thumb key...

Posted by: htyped

yeah, I've tried everything. It's really loud during the preview section under setup, however once out of setup and wehn I receive a call, it's really soft.

Posted by: babychai

sorry then, can't help u there...

but i noticed that placing the sl55 and sl56 side to side, the sl56 previews a lot louder than the sl55 on the same ringtone.
dunno why...

I had this problem to when I first got the phone. I think for some reason it depends on which folder you store the tone in. Try downloading it again but don't put it in any folder.

what you could try. When you download a ringtone it goes into your my data folder. From there you can copy it and send to your set up folder then put it under your tones and alerts. That my fix it, who knows.... My ringtones on my sl56 are really loud.

My ringtones aren't really loud. They are just acceptable. I wish I could make them louder. I have everything set to max. BTW. I haven't tried this but if you want to turn off the ascending ring tones just insert a pause into the begining of the midi. Should work.

Yes. Myself and 2 friends have S56's. When we download the midi it previews fine. When the phone actually uses it to ring it is almost completely inaudible.
Can anyone assist?
Tried all the solutions below..nada...
Seems that the higher tones are just a wee bit louder..
Back to you,
Paul

I'm one of the friends from above....

On the S56 he tones preview loud but don't ring loud..

When you iR a .mid over to the phone it puts the file, by default, in the \Tones&Alerts\EMS\ dir. If i change the file extention i can get the file to save to the /Misc dir. How do you move the file to just the /Tones&Alerts dir.

I read about a "file moving" hack b4... something about a file extention that goes to the right dir.

Let us know if you do.
Thx

there is a file moving program. try this thread here.

it was made for the s56, but it also works for sl56 and sl55. it is pretty simple, just follow the directions.
