Does anyone know how to get the Audiovox 8600 to stop flashing "Verizon Wireless" on the external LCD? I have it set on analog clock, but every 10 seconds or so it flashes verizon wireless for 5 seconds......VERY ANNOYING.

Hi,
I tried diferent settings on my phone and I cannot duplicate your problem.

Have you check screen saver and make sure it is turned off?

Also my software version is: t055ve2m01_4.235

hardware version: tx-55c

_rev_02

what are your versions?

Bryan

to get it go to settings, others, scroll to s/w version (#8), THEN OK.

My settings are all exactly the same as the above.

The screensaver is off, but I don't see how it would affect the sub-lcd....

The "verizon wireless" message is very annoying b/c you have to wait for it to dissapear before you can check the time!

This is something Verizon can fix in a software release.

Before yesterday I was still running on the old software and it didn't flash or have the ugly Verizon banner on the color screen.

But then I went and did something stupid - I *228 updated the software and it's been annoying ever since.

Maybe if we all complain they'll take if off?

*228 doesn't update the software on the phone... just enables activation (option 1) and PRL updates (option 2). I guess it is possible the flashing Verizon has to do with the enhanced roaming indicator and the phone has a hickup with the latest PRL. That said, mine has been working fine with the latest PRL.

What do you mean by 'hiccup' ?

Posted by: pgens

I mean the phone's built-in enhanced roaming indicator is polling and reaquiring Verizon towers listed in the PRL (and showing "Verizon" every time it performs a new acquisition). Maybe it's a fringe area issue, where he's losing signal on one and picking up another, or going from analog to digital, bouncing between the two.

If the original poster is seeing this problem while travelling then that theory probably isn't true.

The Verizon sign flashes every 4 seconds regardless of location. I am also in downtown Boston (one of Verizon's strongest points), so it shouldn't be a coverage issue.

like i said before, it didn't flash until i did the *228 option #1 programming, so it's something verizon decided to make the phone do.

also, I believe the phone does get new software over the #1 option because they asked me to do it to fix my echo problem, which it eventually did. unfortunately I didn't have an original software revision to compare it to.

also, option #2 specifically says it updates your PRL which doesn't leave #1 to do much else. I noticed the guy who activated it dialed *350.

*shrug*

Well I tried doing some testing to get the trouble you have on my phone, well it worked got the flashing verizon on the outer lcd, and you r right after I did a *228 update this happened. Still have not found an option to change it will keep checking.
Maybe another update will come through later to correct this?

Could dream

My understanding is that *228 (option 2) updates the PRL and ERI (enhanced roaming indicator). I updated my 8600 over the weekend and now have the annoying flashing verizon wireless banner on the outside lcd AND a static verizon wireless on the inside lcd. It's annoying and I want to remove it, but don't know if it's possible.

It's definately not a fringe issue, since I live in Boston and have the same issue.

Hey, I returned the phone to Verizon, and they said it would continue to flash verizon forever as far as she knew. I had the CSR report the problem to the complaint dept. but we all know nothing will ever happen. Back to my trusty V60. Although, they did have the Nokia 3589i in stock and I must say it looked nice...
