Personal preference.
They are both good phones.

The 5300 will soon be discontinued. The 8100 has a slightly smaller but brighter screen, and more features. The 5300 has a better camera and flash, also like 200KB more download memory. The 8100 has 512KB same as the 4900. 
I prefer the 8100.

Same as all other SprintPCS phones. Thru shortmail. MO-SMS is coming in Nov. Well that's what Sprint says when I get a CSR that isn't sitting on his/her thumb.
