I jus got an SL56 today, i noticed theres NO way u can send ringtones/wallpaper/games/etc throught any connection (irda, data cable) is this confirmed to be true??

Posted by: carsmovies

There's aleady been much talk about this subject. You really should read some posts first next time. But to answer your question, no you can't transfer ringtones and pic's from you phone to another device unless the pic's have been taken by the optional camera attachment.

Cingular had Siemens disable that feature due to copyright laws and let me say it again, that's the foremost reason I sold my Sl56 and got a SL55.

what i mean is if the SL56 will let me download ringtones pictures from my PC to phone.

copywright was not the reason cingular diabled that option,
it was greed.

they want you to only get the ringtones from them only so only they can profit.

they don't wat website like this one giving the ringtones away for free ( or charging less)

do the sl56's from at&t have htis problem too? ah i havent had the time to test it out yett

Posted by: snoop_005

I got my phone connected through irda using siemens software suite, it recongnize my phone and everything but everytime i try to send a phone number to my phone's addressbook it will give me the error "Not all entry was sent" or sumthing my phone didnt recieve anything. I also cant "read out" any ringtones from my phone. Please help it sees my phone as SL56 and the imei number but cant send anything.

so glad I have an SL55 rather than an SL56. Seems to really disable some of the phones best features, what a shame. If you got it fully unlocked or reflashed would that help?

That has nothing to do with it. You are able to upload any ringtones and pic's to the phone you just can't transfer them from the phone to another device.

Can ppl read english.

Been trying for weeks now...

Well, this is my final try before I just accept the ringtones that came with the SL56.

I have a USB Siemens data cable. I also installed the Siemens Data Suite (which did recog the SL56), but still can't figure out how the download a MIDI ringtone to the SL56. Just to let you know, I didn't sign up for the internet service.

I also downloaded the software for the S56, but can't figure out how and if downloading a ringtime will work with the SL56.

I called Siemens and was told that there is no software for the SL56 to download ringtones even with the data cable.

So am I SOL?

Thanks

Ok guys, you need to get yourself a USB-IR and use it's software driver with Windows XP to upload ringtones and pic's.

If the data cable does not work, why should the USB-IR work since Siemens claims there is no software to upload ringtones for the SL56?

Have you used this yourself?

Yes I've used this on my previous SL56 and currently use it on my SL55. The IR will come with a driver and XP will allow you to just drag and drop.

Then so be it!!!!

I'll check around and order one.

BTW....do you know online the best place to purchase one?

Still curious why if this works with the IR, why not the data cable?

What needs to be set up on XP for it to work?

Not sure where to buy it online but just do a search yourself. Mine is a "Mobile Action Technology Inc." model MA-620 and it's worked with every mobile I've tried it with.

Nothing to set on XP.

Did some fast research and while I'm sure it did work with your SL56 the Mobile Action Technology Inc website does not include that phone for the MA-620.

So either it's take another chance on spending money or wait until Siemens creates software for the SL56.

Not sure but I don't see why not. There are hundreds of sites that have polyphonic ringtones. Look at the top of the Siemens forum. Synncere has added alot of links and great sites to go to.

I have the SL56, the USB data cable, and a serial Jeteye IR. I have tried both of the cables with the SL55 data suite, and have been UNABLE to connect to the phone to do ringtones. I am able to read the SIM, received calls etc...but not the address book or the filesystem. I have tried the USB cable on Win98, Win2000, and WinXP - all to no avail.

You need to use the Ir one but not with the data suite s/w. Just use XP with it and your should see a little icon on your bottom right indicating that your IR has connected and recognized the SL56. Then click on the icon and it should open up a window with all your pc's folders. Just select the pic or ringtone and push send. Make sure that you have installed the driver for the Ir.

Thanks for the reply. I finally got it to work directly from XP -> SL56 last night. Now I have to figure out how to get all my favorite MP3's turned into MMF's.

I'm not too familiar with that stuff but isn't mp3's wav. files? If so there are programes out there that convert wav to midi.

How did you you do this? With IR or by cable?

Posted by: burnmaxx

I used the Jeteye ESI-09680 Serial IR to do the transfers. Could also just email the ringtones to the phone as an attachment I suppose.

Posted by: Juice_22

I tried to email an attachment to my phone before. All that I got was the text. I could not get the attachment.
