8890 to 8855 conversion

I recently purchased a 8890 with an uninstalled casing. There were no installation instructions provided, so I went again and tried to install it without instructions.

Everything seemed to go ok except for 3 critical things:

I've seen on the forums that you must use the key membrane from the 8890 in order for the keypad to work. But doing so makes it so that the "call" button does not click when pressed.

I was unable to install the A frame because it seems like the LCD of the 8890 was pushing against the glass on the 8855 A frame. It seems almost impossible to fit it on there. Is there a way to remove the glass from the old 8890 LCD?

My 8855 casing did not come with the "release button" for the battery cover. Is there a way of pulling that from the 8890? It seems pretty sealed in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Karric

I had the same problem with my casing not having the battery release button. I took off the one on the 8890 but it did not fit.. Just press down on the part close to the spring and it will slide out.. Let me know if for some reason yours fitss

why do so many people like the 8855 styling. i like the styling of my 8890 a lot more than that of the 8855. is the 8855 just a lot more expensive, cause the 8890 was pretty damn expensive in the first place

maybe that's the majority's taste
as for me i like it cuz the A frame is also aluminium. compare to the 8890 that is the black plastic only. and the power button is made of chrome plastic like the keypad.

whats the A frame???

Posted by: karrickk

The A frame is the part of the case around the LCD screen.

So anyone know how to get the 8855 A frame to fit the 8890?

ask yesh...i think he did a convertion once for it...and sharpst77 too...

Posted by: karrickk

I've actually tried to PM Sharpst77 and YESH about 2 weeks ago, but haven't received any response. They must not frequent the forums as much as I'd thought.

the a cover fits but barely
i also have done the conversion
the release key i dont think there is much you can do about it besides buying a new middle frame

Posted by: Hideyoshi

I actually got the one from the 8890 to fit, but had to work on it a little.. Using a dremel i shaved it down a bit and iut fit.. looks perfect.. if you do do it.. use it at a medium speed... Or yea you can get a new middle section

what are those characters besides the numbers on the keypad?

Posted by: kuno

Japanese numbers...

The 8855 is only available in Asian markets.

Posted by: Hideyoshi

yep japanese characters, but can be had in english letters..

Posted by: zaku

those aren't japanese characters. they are taiwanese "zhu yin" (phonetics) symbols.
even with common sense, is just impossible that u will have japanese characters for keypad input on a nokia phone
