hey,
i thought that the 8600 was going to be able to have fun face plates (ie the red color that was shown on "phonescoop", but i haven't seen the plates available anywhere.

anyone have any info on this??

The capability is definitely there to switch faceplates, just pop off the little rubber bumpers on the inside lid and you'll see the screws holding the outside 'plate' on.

I haven't heard anything about a major manufacturer coming out with them but I'm sure some industrious third party motivated by money will eventually come out with replacements.

That would be sweet! I didn't buy the phone with that in mind, but it would definitely be a bonus.

someone mentioned in another thread that their was a size/shape difference between the 8600 and the 8500. I can't say for sure because I have never seen the 8500.

The shape is different and the 8500 is larger, it will not fit.

Go check out ebay auction pictures of the phone and you'll see why.
