It will only work if it is unlocked. There are places that you can send it to in the marketplace that will do it. Also, sometimes you can get Tmo to supply you with an unlock code if you ask in the right way.

most of the time, at&t will deny requests to have phones from them unlocked. at&t are bastards like that.

Most of the time? I have never heard of AT&T ever giving an unlock code.
