siemens nokia compatibility

hi,
I just bought a Siemens M55. All my friends use either a Nokia or a Sony Ericcson handset.
Why aren't Nokia's regular Grapihics (Picture messages) viewable on the M55 handset?
Is there any software which deals with this issue?
I find the volume of the ringtones on the M55 handset pretty low, even at maximum. Is there any solution to this?
