Anyone using mNet on their Suncom account with a Smartphone? I had it working on my old Compal (rom 1049), got a new phone with rom 1055 and now it won't connect.
I've got the APN set as 'mobileinternet' and the IP address set to 66.15.237.195. Everything else is blank.
I named that GPRS connection "Suncom" and set it to connect to the WAP network. I set PIE to automatically detect settings and Connect to WAP network.
PIE shows the windows flag for less than a second then returns to the display screen with the last page you were on, and Favorites and Menu as the softkey labels.
If I uncheck automatically detect settings, PIE says "Dialing..." in the status bar for around 15 seconds, then I get a network error saying it couldn't complete the connection, verify network coverage, yadda yadda.
All the while I've got the G in a box or the signal indicator with the G with at least 3 bars, so the GPRS signal is good an strong.
Thanks!
Steve

If 66.15.237.195 is the WAP gateway address then it should go in the proxy connection.
Enter these settings and then try accessing a WAP site with http://(WAP address)
Create GPRS connection.
Description: Suncom
Connects to: The Internet
Access point: mobileinternet
User name: (blank)
Password: (blank)
Primary DNS:
Secondary DNS:
IP address: (blank)
Create proxy connection
Description: Suncom proxy
Connects from: The Internet
Connects to: WAP network
Proxy (name
ort): 66.15.237.195
Type: WAP
Username: blank
Password: blank
In data connections
Internet Connection: Suncom
In Internet Explorer, Tick 'Auto Detect Settings'

Still doesn't work, but I'm getting a different error now:
Alert
-------
The page you are looking for cannot be found.
I'm trying to go to http://wap.howardforums.com (which you can get to from the internet) and http://wap.suncom.com (which you can only get from their network.. it works on my t39).
Any other ideas?

I can't think of any reason why this would not work
Can you can't connect to ANY WAP sites ?
Try http://www.google.com/wml
Can you connect to non WAP sites ?
Try http://www.google.com
If you can connect to all sites except WAP (WML pages) then check the proxy settings again. You could also try deleting all the existing GPRS & proxy connections and recreating them.

Alright.. getting there... I changed it the WAP setting to "Suncom" instead of Automatic and now I can get to wsp://www.google.com/wml and wsp://wap.howardforums.com/ .
HTML still doesn't work. I don't know that Suncom hasn't changed something in the past two weeks that now blocks all html coming over WAP..
Are there any utilities that you are aware of that will display the return contents of the error that comes back instead of the PIE error messages?

Okay - a little further... it appears they aren't blocking HTML streams - just access to HTTP itself, so if I type in a wsp:// address, it can return HTML, but if that page has a hyperlink, it tries to use http to get to the next page... I remember someone saying something about forcing IE to use the wsp:// medium for all connections, but I'm not sure if it was a registry hack or something else to get it to work, so I'll root around and see if I can get that to work.
Thanks for all of your help Martin!

I think your almost there
When using Internet Explorer :
http://(address) uses the Internet Connection
wsp://(address) uses the WAP connection.
E-mail, MSN Messenger and file downloads automatically use the Internet connection and its associated Internet APN (Access Point Name).
Usually network providers give both an Internet APN and a WAP APN but it is possible that Suncom only have the internet APN (mobile internet).
I would set the data connections to
Internet Connection=Suncom
WAP connection=Suncom
In IE tick automatically detect settings.
When network providers use the word internet in their APN then it usually means full Internet access. Strange

I've done that - but the HTTP stuff still doesn't work if I use the HTTP prefix. I can get just about any HTML page if I preface the link with wsp:// but then all the links on that page want to use the http:// stream, which I'm pretty sure Suncom is blocking (along with pop3)... It would be nice if they open it all the way up, but I doubt it - so I may just write a plugin to spoof the transport protocol settings (similar to what WebWAPSelect does for the browser type) to get around the issue.

Yeah it does like the SPV is being blocked when accessing the server as a WEB browser
Good luck on the plugin
