Drinking in Public?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My friend's son, is 17. He got 2 tickets. One was under age drinking, and the other one was Drinking in Public.. his friends were drinking in the car, but not him, since he was the driver.

There is such law that prohibits drinking in public?

Posted by: WoNGsTeR

yup.. esp if your under age for sure.. but your technically only suppose to drink in your indoor not out doors.....

i learned that when i was 17 the hard way too

me and a few friends were drinking at a park cops came gave us all $125 tickets for drinking in public..

My friend's son said all of his friends got 2 ticket, one for underage, and one for drinking in public. The funniest thing was that one of them got some ticket(Forgot what's it called) and he got it because he was urining.

How much are the tickets? The summon he showed me was to tell him to go to court.

They're probably appearance tickets that were issued...so the person has to appear at the date and time and at the court listed on the front of the summons. That's where the fine or whatever is set. You can't mail an appearence ticket in.

Yeah, its an appearence ticket. I was telling him.. wtf is drinking in public? lol

oh we got lucky.. the two cops just fined us.. they were saying you know what we did the same thing when we were your age .. but they still fined us!!!.. argh!!!!... funny thing was i was 3 weeks from being 18.. and when cop saw my id.. he said your luck your not 18 or you would of been held responisble ... not too exactly sure by what he mean... maybe that would mean i would've have to go to court? not sure..

Lucky they didn't take his car. My friend would have killed his son or something...

Drinking in public = bad
Drinking in car = bad
above 2 + cops = really bad.

you shouldn't have alcohol in the cabin area, let alone drink it in a car.

Posted by: Schmohey

The funniest thing was that.. he waswas the one driving, but yet, he was not the one drinking. His friend opened a bottle of vodka, and they found the bottle inside. Everyone in the car got 2 summons except this girl. She did not get a summon..

Posted by: SiR Power

Unfortunately there is. Why do you think homeless people keep their alcohol in brown paper bags

i keep my mix close to my heart --> good old flask style!

Here in virginia, it is illegal just to be drunk in public... So technically, cops could wait outside a bar and arrest you as you walk out... Actually there was a case where cops went into a bar, found the drunkest looking guy and arrested him. DIP (Drunk in public) is what they call it...

One interesting state law in VA is... If you as the driver have not had ANYTHING to drink, no smell on your breath, basically 0.00 on an alcosensor, the other passengers in your car ARE allowed to drink even while the car is moving... All passengers can have open container...

VA's rule are nice. DIP is a retarded law.

yeah my friend's got that ticket too... If civil law is similar to canadian (ontario) civil law... than just make the appearance in court, and at the end of pleading quilty when the judge says "do you have anything to say in regards to your sentence/fine/etc?" then tell them to say they are unemployed students, and that they are very sorry - my friend's ticket went from like $120+ to like $45-$50... but again it all depends ont he state law down there, and the judge.

Cool, I'll give that advice to my friend's son

NP... It's the dumbest law... drinking should be allowed in public, like in Europe .

I think if you were at drinking age and people around you weren't, you'd be charged something like providing alcohol for minor or something..

Yeah I think that's what he was refering to... if you were an adult, you'd be responsible enough not to let minors drink .

Posted by: Schmohey

But it's not our fault they they're drinking..

Posted by: chrix

i don't know.. but I'm sure if they drop these laws we'll have a bigger population in Canada...

I know that in Quebec they are more tolerant of drinking in public.
I am not sure wether it legal or but they dont enforce as heavily or the certian regions choose to ignore it.
Definitely a different culture. But don't think that Quebec has it made. They tolerate one of the stongest chapters of the Hell's Angels. And all the bombings and shootings that go with it.

Quebec is the exception, because their civil law (or common law) is different than the rest of English Canada... when the English took over (after the 1760s), one of the things that they granted the Quebecois, was the maintainance of their civil laws (ie drinking age/toleration) - as found in the Quebec Act.

I think that is how it went; my memory is a little foggy I've been drinking too much - ironically .

hehe some of my BS:

From my memories in gr 7/8

1756 - beginning of the 7year war...
1762 or something - the fall of plains of abraham (montreal) (to the british)
1763 - seige of quebec... and theres the treaty of paris, france admit defeat and ends the 7 year war...then theres the proclamation act.. people in "quebec" were forced to the british way of life and their feudal system, lauguage, education, religion and stuff....

then 10 years later, in 1773 there was the quebec act.... reversing the proclamation act.. basically the british wanted to fight in the south and didnt want any distraction

and around that time US of A was bornnnn.. didnt study any US history... was it 1776?

lol, enough history from me.. i'll stop.
woha! I cant believe I still remember these from 6 yrs ago!

This difference in the basis of their laws also excludes
them entering most promotional contests.
"To be eligible to win a person must be
a legal resident of Canada, excluding Quebec."

Posted by: chrix

who cares about contests when you can drink in public (or can you?)

Posted by: big Juan

who cares about drinking in public if you can win money (or can you)

Posted by: sefcik19

LOL.... wow chrix... you got a good memory - im taking canadian history now, and i have NO recollection of learning that in grade 7/8... any how yeah 1759 battle on the plains of abraham... 1760 english reenforcements arive, quebec falls, 1763 capitulation (i think).

anyhow you cannot drink in public in quebec... cops told me that when i got caught in quebec city.

Posted by: chrix

I'll vote for whoever make drinking in public legal...
