How to put 70 images and 70 ringtones on vx6000

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

NOTE: You must have the data cable to do what I'm going to explain.

With a little examination I've found you can store up to 70 images and ringtones on the vx6000. 20 for mms(pix msging), 30 for brew (downloaded from get it now), 20 for drm (haven't found a source for downloads, but it's supposed to allow for copyrighted material... Digital Rights Management). Here's how to do it:

Brew(supposed to be from get it now apps like myseenz and modtones):
Image Folder: /brew/shared
Image Map file: brewImageIndex.map
Ringer Folder: /user/sound/ringer
Ringer Map file: brewRingerIndex.map

MMS (supposed to be from pix messaging):
Image Folder: /brew/shared/mms
Image Map file: mmsImageIndex.map
Ringer Folder: /mms/sound
Ringer Map file: mmsRingerIndex.map

DRM images (no source for appropriate usage that I know of, I'm assuming there may be a source in the future for having copyrighted materials sent via pix messaging):
Image Folder: /brew/shared/mms/d
Image Map file: mmsDrmImageIndex.map
Ringer Folder: /mms/sound/drm
Ringer Map file: mmsDrmRingerIndex.map

I won't get into editing the map files as there have been many threads explaining this. This is merely to explain the possibilities.

Notes:
-It appears the drm files have an icon in the ringer and image list that denotes it as copyrighted (or at least different than the others), but they will accept normal ringers and images.
-If you send jpg's (this includes the conversion pix messaging does) there will be white space.
-If you send bitmaps you will not have that padded spacing.
-No need for my conversion program to have borderless wallpapers if you use bitmaps.
-Best bet as of now seems to be to load up the drm sections since it's not in use now, then go to brew (unless you use myseenz or a ringtone app a lot), then save the mms ones for friends sending you data.

P.S. Update on animation is it is not possible, at least with presently available tools. I've tried both brew compressed images and CMX files (using the freeware apps available), with every acceptable extension. Only bci's with a bci extension worked in the sense that it showed the first frame, but that's it. It also allows them to be used for wallpaper without the white borders.

im new at this...can you possibly explain a little more in detail...or direct me to a thread that will allow me to understand more on storing ringtones in different areas besides the normal location wiht bitpim

...i have tried searching but had no luck, thanks

okay after hours of searching i finally figured it out, so ignore my last post, thanks

Good job, dj! Your method of figuring it out was exactly how I learned GAGIN with my VX4400...

Perhaps animated .GIF?

still trying to get it onto teh phone tho...

Gifs are a completly unrecognized file type for the 6000. I tried loading one onto the phone using one of the default Brew names (bear_heart.bmp because file extensions on the phone itself are completly arbritrary) I did this mainly to get around editing the map file by hand...

interestingly it didn't even display the image, my former VX4400 would display the first frame of the gif with no problems but do nothing with the animation.

I then tried loading it and editing the map file to include the gif... same effect.

there has to be some manner in which to do this. I have rooted through the filesystem and have not found the three animated default pictures (tower, sunflower & beach) if someone can successfully find those and find their file extensions I'm sure it would be of great help to furthering work with animated pictures for this phone.

How do you save music files to those specific listed directories I have backed up my phone so I xan mess arround but I do not want to mess around too much. I just want to know how to get the music file into one of those folders and where is it stored so I can reference to the file to play it on my phone.

Posted by: ziggie216

so am I suppose to manually put pictures in there so I can max it out?

Posted by: Mr_HeNtAi

Can someone please post a link to a tutorial on how to access the additional Directories on the VX6000. I've been using BitPim .62 to add Wallpapers and Ringtones. But I dont know how to access the addtional Directories please Help.

My phone (vx6000) has a gif file on it, that I uploaded. It actually worx better than .jpeg and .bmp. I gonna try putting an animation one on, and see what happens.

Posted by: herbcheck

Posted by: PIGBIRD

HOW DO U DO THIS? PLEASE EXPLAIN STEP BY STEP.

I tried adding these directories and files on my VX4400 it had no effect. (and yes, I have a "My Folder" under messages where it has "My Pictures" and "My Animations" under it but both of these are empty and I don't see any way to put stuff in them.)

Anyone know what the equivalent directories/files are for VX4400? And all the map files go in the dloadindex directory?

Unfortunatly some of us dont have the time to read the forums for hours. I have AP tests, finals and SAT I and II right now, I cant waste my time trying to find something that you can easily tell me in a snap. Two summers ago I tought myself how to burn DreamCast emulators on a Mac off the DCEmu forums. Once I finally figured it out I wrote a full tutorial for everyone else who was in my position. I continued to help others on the forum. Now Im a moderator there. http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=48 if anyone cares to check it out, Im MegaBomberMan).
Being able to do something no one else can do is all fine and good for showoffs and jerks, but it takes real skill and talent to teach others. In other words, it doesnt matter if you can do it if you cant teach others.
Please just type out how to do this, youve only got 3000+ posts, Im sure its no big deal for someone of your status. Or if you can get StrataG back here that would be good too. Thank you.

×××× right

OK, so now that we know where to put the pictures, how do we see, and use them with the phone?

Posted by: robz

hey jsut curious have people been able to get this working?

Posted by: ziggie216

wouldnt this be actually only 40 images since the the DRM isnt being used at the moment?

Posted by: HyToFry

It's not in use by VZW.

The phone uses it. My phone uses it all the time.

In fact, I put my mp3's in the DRM folder. That way they have a different icon in the phone's menu system, and I know that they are mp3's.

how does the phone use it? I tried putting a jpg into the drm image folder but I cant find the location where it would show it

Did you delete the map file after you uploaded it?

You have to delete:
for pictures: /download/dloadindex/mmsDrmImageIndex.map
for ringtones: /download/dloadindex/mmsDrmRingerIndex.map

You do this after you upload all the ringers/pics you want. The turn your phone off and on, and it will rebuild them with the new image in the list. Actually... I don't know about images to be honest.

Posted by: HyToFry

confirm. Works for images as well.

Posted by: SystemOfAD/L

Thank you!!!!! Thats what I needed to know!! Finally!!! Thank YOU so much!!!!!

Posted by: blazer380

would this also work for the LG VX7000?

Posted by: HyToFry

That's sketchy at best...

From what I understand, the vx7000 *will* behave in this manner, but deleting the map files resets your ringerID and pictureID settings at the same time.

But I don't know a lot about how the vx7000 works. I do know that the vx6000 works like this, and it's one of the reasons that I'm sticking with the vx6000.

Posted by: SystemOfAD/L

Can someone tell me where pics to be sent and inbox/outbox pics are?

Posted by: jojo82

i havnt got a vx 6000 yet because i was unhappy that it only held 20 pics now i am happy that it can hold more

i am noob

tell me if i can manipulate all 70 pics like send them and stuff
even if its a longcut i dont mind

also after i put in 70 pics and 70 tones

will i loose anything valuable? in the fone ?

will the fone behave properly?

Posted by: JoshTheJoker

i followed the instructions from the first post and i can get pictures to work under the drm folder, but no matter what i do, ringtones dont work like they should. they never show up on my phone to where i can use them as ringtones. any help would be appreciated!

Posted by: BiG1CeS

I have tryed to put mp3s in the drm folder but it doewst pick it up on the phone. But if i put mp3 it works. Can some one help me ? Is it possible to put mp3s in that folder? thanx to all the hommies dat help me out!
