Unlocked Moto MPx200 on T-Mo.. Need Settings

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: shill79

OK... I bought a Moto MPx200 from Best Buy yesterday...

Adam from GSMPhoneSource was able to remotely unlock it for me (to both of our surprise)...

Now I'm using the phone on T-Mobile...

Can someone please help me with the Internet settings...

This is my first time with a Smartphone, so I'm still getting used to the whole interface and whatnot...

Posted by: shill79

As a further note... I'm on the $19.99 Unlimited T-Mobile Internet with access to the internet2 Access Point..

Posted by: shill79

Never mind... I figured it out...

Haha AT&T I got your Smartphone unlocked and configured for T-Mo...

$299.99 + tax for this bad boy... Not a bad deal

Posted by: Dr.G

If I went to Best buy and bought one, would Adam also be able to unlock mine? Don't you have to sign-up for a service plan with AT&T to get the 299 price? How do you get out of that?

Posted by: shill79

I did sign up... but I cancelled today... We'll have to see if Best Buy wants to come find me... I paid in cash, so no credit card to charge

Adam unlocked mine with no problem (cost me $20)... He did say that a prior unlock attempt was unsuccessful... Maybe I just got lucky..

Posted by: mikegold

I think it depends on the experience of the particular Best Buy staff.

I did not have to sign up for any plan and I got it for $299. They just asked me at checkout if I was a new or existing customer.

Posted by: sclui56

I can confirm that BB didn't require activation on this phone, the sales guy (BB personnel) by the counter was more interested in my SE BT headset, walked me & the phone to the register, the clerk asked only if I were existing or new, replied existing since I use my SX56 on ATT, paid my dues & off I went.

Posted by: nickp

Ditto on the Best Buy and Adam unlock process. Best Buy guy sold it to me for $299.00. I told him I wanted to evaluate the phone before I signed up with ATTWS.

The only issue I am still having is the web and T-Zones settings. I can not seem to establish a connection to either.

Can anyone please share your settings or maybe even make them a post.

Thanks,

Do you know the method to display the IMEI number?
thanks,
Leo

Posted by: nickp

Your IMEI is listed on the sticker located underneath the battery. You will see an ESN, HEX and IMEI number.

It is also on the outside of the box your phone came in.

If all else fails, I believe if you press *#060#, it should display.

Good Luck<<<<

Here's how I did the settings for T-Mobile GPRS:

Delete all ATT settings... Go to Data Connections --> Menu --> Edit Connections... Under Proxy delete the ATT proxy connection. Under GPRS delete the ATT connections. Then, under GPRS connections, create a new connection. Name it TMobile GPRS or whatever you wanna call it.

Connects to: The Internet
Access point: internet2.voicestream.com
User name: blank
Password:blank
Primary DNS: blank
Secondary DNS: blank
IP address: blank

Go back to the Data Connections screen and where it says

Internet connection, set to Automatic
Work connection, WAP connection, and Secure WAP connection all should say None Available.

Note that I'm on the $19.99 unlimited internet plan. I couldn't get it to work while I was on the $9.99 unlimited TZones plan.

Posted by: Atken

I think the APN needs to be wap.voicestream.com for the $9.99 T-Zones to work...or even the $2.99 T-Zones.

internet2.voicestream.com is the APN for the $19.99 and up plans.

Can anyone confirm?

The rest of the settings looked good

Posted by: shill79

I tried the wap.voicestream.com before I switched to the 19.99 plan. I didn't work... Now that I'm on the 19.99 plan, everything seems to be ok

Posted by: Atken

I am waiting on the unlock code for mine. Once I get it, I will mess with the settings. I am sure there is a way to make it work for the WAP only T-Zones options.

I will post my results once I can play with the phone. I threw an AT&T SIM in the phone just to play with it and the phone is awesome. I am just itching to use it!

Posted by: Atken

OK, thanks to Adam I am up and running.

Got GPRS working on it - I am on the $9.99 unlimited WAP plan.

Under GPRS Settings:

Name: T-Zones GPRS

Connects to: The Internet

Access Point: wap.voicestream.com

User name: (blank)

Password: (blank)

Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50 (I don't know that this is needed)

Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.50 (I don't know that this is needed)

IP Address: (blank)

Now under Data Connections, I have:

Internet connection: T-Zones GPRS

Work connection: None Available

WAP connection: T-Zones GPRS

Secure WAP connection: None Available

I think the most important difference was setting the 'WAP connection' to T-Zones GPRS instead of None Available.

Also, I read something on www.modaco.com that suggested putting in settings under the Proxy. Those settings are as follows:

Connects From: The Internet

Connects to: WAP Network

Proxy (nameort): 216.155.165.50

Type: HTTP

User name: (blank)

Password: (blank)

I just got my phone, not from Best Buy though they wanted to charge me an additional $150 without a plan i said "Heck No!" to that and i drove over to compusa and they sold it to me for the 299.99 without a plan.. and Adam unlocked my phone and I'm all set on T-Mobile! So far this phone rocks, but I was just wondering from you other T-mobile guys is are you able to access your T-mobile page like the one you get on a T-Mobile phone. I tryed connecting to http://wap.myvoicestream.com that didnt work i can use the web by going to IE on the phone but is there a way to get to your T-mobile page or is that programed into each phone? It's not a big issue just wondering if it's possible i have the unlimted t-zones plan for 2.99 on my plan. So dunno if that's any different.

Hate to tell you... but the $2.99 WAP plan is NOT unlimited... You need to be on the $9.99 WAP plan...

For those out there on the $9.99 plan, have you been able to use the Inbox to send/receive email? I can do this just fine on the $19.99 plan...

I have the $9.99 unlimited plan and my email works fine. Comcast is my ISP.

As for the myvoicestream wap page, I have read a lot of users not being able to access this page. No one knows the reason. But the smartphones have trouble - its not just this phone.

Besides, you should be able to do everything the wap page offered by just going on the web - and so much more.

For those of you that used GSMPhoneSource to unlock the phone, how long did it take for you to receive the code?

Posted by: Sparky280

I ordered mine Sunday arond 3:30pst got my code around 7am this morning. I suppose since i ordered on sunday it took longer. but it states same day turn around.

Less than an hour.........

Got my MPx200 an hour ago from best buy. I went into the store and looked around. The didn't have the phone on display, but luckily for me, a best buy drone was staring me down and immidiatly asked what he can help me with. I asked about the phone and he pulled it out from under the counter. I asked where I can pay for it and he said I need to setup service. I said I already have service and he said I need to switch over. "Switch over?" I asked to get a reply of I need to go to the new gsm technology with the SIM card. I said I already had it and he was insistent to make sure. I then told him this phone is really for my dad and his AT&T service. Yea, I told him, he already has the card. At that point he took me to the front and checked me out. He wanted to sell me a plan for $40 and I asked if this would include some sort of phone updates. He said "sure, if it ever breaks, you can bring it in and you get $300 towards a new phone." This might be a really good deal as maybe I can jus switch phones. I don't really believe these best buy guys though. I paid $320 (including tax) and was on my way. The box includes the phone, a charger, a cradle for your comp to hook up via USB, headphones, a headset, AN UNREGISTERED AT&T SIM CARD (which allowed me access to the phone, no service), and a USB cable. I'm waiting for my unlock code to try out everything. Seems cool, but I don't know if it will be able to beat out P900.

If their Extended Warranty for their phones is anything like their PDA, when they say break, they mean anything OTHER than physical stuff.

If your phone just won't turn on one day, you're covered. If you drop the thing (or do anything else physical to it) and the screen doesn't work, you're outta luck.

Cool that you got outta there for $320 though!

If anyone knows the settings for the $2.99 T-Zones, could you please let me know? I am also waiting on the unlock code from gsmphonesource.com...Thanks all.

Me too (on the waiting for the unlock code). This is worse than that waiting for Christmas morning when you're 10 and already know what your presents are. GET HERE ALREADY!

I'm not sure why it takes so long, I think the most annoying thing is trying to get this phone working with T-Zones. As far as I see, you have to at least have the $9.99 plan. If anyone out there knows how to ge the $2.99, please let me know. Thanks again.

I though the only difference between the t-zones plans was the billing -- the $2.99 plan isn't 'technically' different from the $9.99 plan, is it?

Anyhow, do a search for mpx200 and t-zones ... there's another thread on here where people are talking about all of the settings required.

Posted by: liquidplatinum

LoL, this phone is sweet, but did anyone else notice that it didnt come with any holster? Where can I find a belt clip for this phone? I couldnt even find one on Ebay.

Posted by: aristoBrat

Haven't unlocked it, so haven't used it as a phone yet, but I'm really REALLY liking the screen, speaker (for MP3s), form factor, blah blah.

The only thing I've seen to carry it is kinda bizarre:

i'm using the MPX 200 with T-Mobile's 2.99 plan and the only issue i've encountered is not being able to get to the t-zones home page. on the other hand, i can use the 200's internet explorer to go everywhere else - so i'm happy... these are the t-zone settings i'm using...

Posted by: Luzerman

I have to agree with you aristobrat. That thing is hideous. I want to buy this phone but I hate putting stuff in my pocket. I was wondering if anyone had tried the MPx200 with a holster for a different model phone from Motorola? It looks to be similiar in size to several of their phones so I was wondering if it fit in any of the other holsters.

Posted by: nickp

I went to an AT&T retail store and purchased the smallest Body Glove holster they had. It is black, has a non swivel belt clip and was less than $20. The 200 fits in nice and tight, but not too tight as to cause fit or function issues.

Has anyone tried the AT&T pouch ??

I have one question. if you're driving or sitting down, will it slip out, does it fall out if held upside down or is it storng enough to hold it in?

Posted by: nickp

That is why I like this holster. It is tight, the belt clip hangs on for dear life and doesn't swivel and dump your phone out. Overall it is a nice alternative.
