(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: micro761

Hello ;I'm new to this forums, so please be lenient with me.

I have (for now!) three questions:

1: what's the "i" in my nokia phone mean?
2: I want to know all the secrets codes for my nokia 3586i

I already know two codes

*#837#
*3001#12345#

3: there's more codes?

thanks in advance!

Posted by: micro761

hello?
anyone?

Posted by: roberts

I just got a 3586i also, but have nothing useful to add. Did you ever find any more out?

Posted by: micro761

Not at the moment, however I'm still seaching for new codes.
I believe there's more codes for this phone.
I hope someone can share your secrets with me.

thanks dude!

Posted by: roberts

I found out:

"
Enable "Field Test"
Power off/on
Menu "Network Monitor"
enter "3101"
user up/dn arrows to move between screens
hold "*" to see labels for displayed values, "*" again to return.

... On my 3586i in the 1st screen of the field Test mode (31-01), it seems to show the -dB signal strength. (-72 ect..).
My 5185i sig str display was very "dynamic" & "real time", & the numbers would constantly jump around, especially if you moved around - (-72, -63, -64 ect..).
This 3586i seems to hold the same sig strength value much longer, & only "update" the figure every 20-30 secs or so...
Anyone with a 3586/89i able to vaerify if yours acts this way too??
I just checked it out and noticed the same thing in mine. It isn't very dynamic at all and update about every 15-20 seconds.

"

Posted by: micro761

Interesting information dude.
where did you found that?

I entered in those menus but I don't know what to do there.

I also have a question, there's a way to increase the antenna gaining using those menus?

Posted by: micro761

mine runs :

-97/-72
-100/-72
-103/-72

and so on!

I'm clueless!

Posted by: micro761

I found something, isn't much but here's another code.

life timer: hold # for 5 seconds

No one answered the question about what the "i" means. The i means that it is an updated version, or has more features, or is for a different providor. The 6590i is the EXACT same thing as the 6590, but the 6590i has the 850/1900mhz GSM, unlikc the 6590 wich only has 1900. And the 6590i is made for Cingular, and the 6590 is for AT&T. The 8265 is made for a number of providors, and the 8265i is made only for Cingular (there may be a few other small feature changed for different providors).

Posted by: micro761

Thanks "compuwiz1937" appreciated.

I'll keep going for more answers.!

Posted by: micro761

found more codes:

*#66767# (mo-sms on/off)
*#75681# (this will re-start your phone, restart slot cycle) -I don't know what it means.
*#7370# (restore factory settings)
*#639# (Service programming code) -I don't know what's password is, someone can share some light on this?

that's all for now.

Posted by: micro761

anyone have used those codes and take any advantage of them?

Posted by: navek

The "i" indicates the phone has within it something similar and the same appx size as a SIM chip, though it's not GSM. This slot is for a card called an R-UIM or Removable User Identity Module. The slot is disabled in this model, and it's purpose is as a placeholder for release of a CDMU model later down the road.

Hi Roberts,

I just purchased my 3586i from Bell Mobility (a Canadian provider). I am able to enable the Field Test and my phone did turn off and back on by itself. However, I can't find Network Monitor. Where is that? What is the menu item before and after Network Monitor?

Thanks.

Supposedly the 3588i and the 3586i are the same base phones. To access the Net Monitior on the 3588i you enter

##786# - takes you to this diagnostic menu
go to options and then service screen and turn it on. On start up it should be menu screen 11.

However, what does the Net Monitior do? Also I was wondering if anyone could instruct me or just send me in the right direction on how to unlock the "Applications" menu. SprintPCS is selling these phones with Java capability but no way to access it. I would be very greatful for any help.

Thanks again

Posted by: Tox|k

I think 61-06 in net monitor is some sorta power consumption menu.
can anyone possibly provide some more specifics?

Posted by: gonzalingui

Hi there, i was looking for some answers for my problem but i readed your thread and seems interesting.

I have a Nokia 3586, and i did the "network monitor" thing, i don't know what these nimbers are but the refresh rate is about 2-3 sec. Other thing is that... as I have understand... the difference between my phone 3586 and your 3586i os that your phone has an gps localizatiom module that can be activated/deactivated. you can see it here http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/3586i

Well i think i dont have much to say. that's all

Good Bye

Just got my new 3586i today, and the lock code is not the default 1234 or the last 4 digits of my phone number.

I put the phone into Field Test Mode and verified that the Security code is still at the default.

When I try to go into the Security Settings to change my code, it asks for my lock code.

How can I reset the lock code?

Thanks.

Posted by: bgclarke

Turns out that the code was the last 4 digits of my number, but I had entered the wrong lock code too many times and locked the phone up.

All fixed now and working fine.

Posted by: yankeez

*#DATA# - Let's you set up your MiniBrowser on the 3585/86 if you have the right flash in it.

By the way, the DEFAULT lock code/Security Code is 12345.

Hold the ZERO down for 3 seconds and you can get to the minibrowser.

Posted by: RuC26

is it possible to run the 3586i into GSM since there is a sim card spot in the phone???

Posted by: CellTester

NO, you need a GSM phone and SIM card not a CDMA phone and GSM SIM card, to run GSM.

I was playing with these codes that were posted here. I have NO idea how I did it, but my phone now says "Searching for Service" and will not work. Does anyone know how to undo what I may have done, even though I'm not sure what I did. Also my provider is MetroPCS, if I call them are they gonna be upset if I tell them what I've done, or should I just say that my phone started saying "searching for service" and I have no idea why? Thank You for any help you can give me!

Posted by: neom

i just bought a 3586i, love it too bits, the codes you show are fairly nifty. Has anyone come across anymore?

Also, when you hold the # key for 5 seconds it shows the life timer, wtf is a life timer??

Posted by: yankeez

The LIFETIMER is the phone's odemeter...shows how many minutes the phone has been used.

Thats a nifty idea, although I can't really see it being that handy.

Posted by: yankeez

Since I work at a cellphone store.... if some one wants to return a phone, they can use no more than 50 minutes on it... It's just an easy way to check.

Menu

4
2
4

Posted by: gqw47

It says shortcut not available.

Posted by: yankeez

Type *3001#12345#, go to NAM1 and then arrow down to Alpha Tag...

IF the phone does to ROAMING, then it will show ROAMING instead of her name.

Good Luck.

no, its not a gsm phone, its a cdma phone.

Posted by: cerver7

^ is right....cdma phone...

Posted by: vermontcellboy

*#7370# is the "code of death"
It gets rid of side allocations AND the PRL and renders your phone inoperable.
I sent mine into Nokia and they fixed it. But they forgot to change the SPC so it came back unlocked .
-Mr. X

Posted by: vermontcellboy

The reason there's a SIM is it's a Korean something like a SIM for CDMA. I believe it's called an R-UIM card.

Posted by: 5centpen

I was browsing through the accessable pages and by holding down "*" found that on page 75-01 it should be displaying the GPS coordinates, but all I'm getting is a bunch of xx.xxxx's etc. any insight on how to get the GPS readout? Thanks

Posted by: mef1600

Hey guys this is a real stupid question but i gotta know.......what is field test used for? whats the advantage of enabling it?
Thanks,
Mef

Posted by: mef1600

Anybody??

Posted by: stanley1234

This link has most of the codes for the 3588i which is the same phone as the 3586i,3587i,and the 3589i. The only difference between these is that they all have software that is specific to the provider. This allows you to do certain things on their respective networks. ie: the 3588i wont let you into nam programing with the #3001*12345# code because sprint doesn't want you to go into that menu and srew around. My guess on the i thing is that it makes the phone sound cooler.

Posted by: stanley1234

woops I forgot the link
http://www.cellphonehacks.com/viewtopic.php?t=15712

This website also has a lot of info about the xx.xxx gps info.

Uhh, thats gonna be a problem.. The nokia 6185 has NO RUIM SLOT AT ALL. how the heck are you gonna pull this one off now? LOL

Posted by: mmmishra

no probs. even that can b done. use standard sim card slot and connect exactly te pin config given as in 3105 service manal or referr to the pcb of the phone. then reflash the phone ,use griffin and nh14r or whatever ur software nxxr the r specifies the ruim activation. it seems easy, just doit and u will find u should be a professional to do it. remember u may have to create a nokia programme flash file of ur own, 4that u need o be a hard arm microcontraller and flash programmer and will need ur original software source code and the ruim algorithm. thats all buddy

But if the carrier doesn't support RUIM (and in the US they don't) then you're going to run into some issues

Posted by: wakajawaka

Never seen a thread full of so much bs and misinformation.
- How do you enable the ruim on a 6185 that was built before the ruim was even conceived? You don't. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is full of it.
- NetMonitor is the GSM equivalent of FieldTest. If you don't do R&D testing on phones, there ain't much value there. Unless you're like the guy on geckobeach that rides around looking for new cell sites....
- the gps module is for compliance with the E911 mandate in the US. It doesn't do anything until the network tells your phone to report its location data when you call 911. The phone doesn't know where it is.... it just makes measurements and reports the result to the network.
