What car do you drive?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Yeah, thats how it went for me too. The last gen looked bad when it came out, then my dad bought one with nice 17inch rims and on it and the design falls into place and looks very good. I would still last years model though, they had the EX-V6 MT. Honda's sweet V6's with a 6-spd manual transmission? Can't get much better than that.

Its a T25G, although I'd like to upgrade to the T28, but that will be for another day.

Nice. T25G is a mitsubishi housing? Im not really familiar with SR20DET's turbos. I know 2nd Gen (95-99) DSM have T25 as a stock turbos.

At least your car is running. Mines enjoying the summer on the driveway.

=( Aw man I know how that is. This thing has been a pain. I have it running right finally, and I think I am gonna sell it until I can afford to buy the car, import the engine, and have it done myself... whoever did the swap in the one i have now did a horrid job, and I've got everything fixed finally, but I am so over it at this point that I want a new project car.

A part of me would say, no DONT! But, a part of me says just get it over with. Too bad you got stuck with a bad karma of a car. Granted i dont have much problems with mine (just regular wear and tear crap). But when my car is down waiting for parts, i feel depressed. As much as the car pissess me off when i work on it, when it does work... the boost bug never fails to make me smile .

Good luck!

BTW

Girl working on a car is hot . Do you drive stick?

Yeah. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. The engine had a tap, I had to replace the battery the day I bought it. I knew it was going to be a problem, but I wanted something to fix, and lord knows... That is what i got.

It is finally running wonderfully!... for now... I had to lower the boost on it though to get it to where it isn't being so tempermental. I wanted to keep it up higher because the engine is supposed to easily handle 11 to 12 psi stock, and some people will run upwards of 18psi on a stock engine, but I wouldn't push that on mine lol. I lowered it to about 10 for now, but I have had no bogging at idle and no fuses have melted lol. It was running well at 14psi, but at 12 psi it bogging lol So I guess it is being picky. I wouldn't run it continuously at 14 right now unless I had rocker arm stoppers.

About a month after I had the car I was running with a Del Sol and a firebird down the interstate, and well lol The next day my ignition switch fuse melted.. So there are a lot of problems with it, but right now it is fine I just don't know how much longer until it decides to crap out again. But everything so far has been an easy fix.

I have both an automatic and a stick. I don't believe in an turbocharged automatic that is just a no no in my opinion =)

Haha Sorry sweetie, That is a little different though, I can give an SUV an okay on a turbocharged automatic. When it comes to a little compact car and "racing," an automatic Turbo is pointless.

Ehh, even then i still think manual all the way... although this is N.A. .

Melted fuse.... bad ground/wiring perhaps?

Do you have an EGT and/or wideband (which would be my next purchase)?

My next purchase will be or was going to be a wideband. I had the car rewired. It only melted the fuse twice... but once was after having it rewired lol, but I think it got so hot from racing that it melted. Who knows. I have the car listed for sale right now. See if I get any decent offers. Its an amazing price for what it is, but I'm just not that attached to it that I want to keep shelling out money to drive it for a week and then have to fix it again.

Posted by: Prolab

Goodluck with the sale. Im sure someone there wants a project car to work on.

My car never fails to surprise me. This morning i lost my brakes coming to a stoplight. Good thing i could make a right and made a hard right. Limp home using 1st gear and handbrake. Turns out, my hardlines in the back are all rusted and spurting out brake fluid .

Now i have to go under and replace all the hard lines. It just never ends .

Posted by: MissRiotMaker

ouch. I am glad you are okay; that could have been quite dangerous hun.

I almost had to say goodbye to my daily driver I was trapped at a stoplight with no where to go and this car came so close to rear ending me. I really honestly do not know how she stopped. I was just sitting there watching her just waiting for it to happen. I have never seen so much smoke come off of tires before lol. It is on a 55 mph road and the stoplight is right around a curve and most people pay attention to the sign that is there telling you the stoplight is coming up, but she didn't. Unfortunately, they were doing roadwork and it was backed up worse than usual and I was at the end of the line with a work truck to my left and a car to my right and I couldn't scoot up any farther, but amazingly she missed...

My car has been running just fine for a little over a week now lol.. I really feel like there isn't much more that could go wrong to be fixed lol. I know there always is though. It is just a matter of getting all the kinks fixed from the bad engine swap.

Well actually one thing did happen to it.. My friend broke the drivers seat haha.. It leans all the way back now in "gangsta lean." I was driving it last night and I had to hold the steering wheel so tight to keep myself up to see over the dash that I have blisters on my hand. It looks like a bolt just fell out, but then again it would be a good excuse to buy some new seats =)

I am sorry about you car though. I know the feeling that it never ends. Hopefully replacing all the hardlines goes smoothly and there will not be anymore problems!

why would it be pointless? computers can be programmed to shift faster than humans and at precise moments in the powerband, therefore, allowing for better use of the powerband, and optimal transition into the next gear.

It would take a lot of tweaking to make it worth while. With a manual you feel it and you can keep it boosting for either racing or daily driving.. Automatic transmissions are not made for a turbo then the tranny is weak and that creates another problem... but despite whether it is an auto or manual most engines that don't come with a stock turbo will need lots of different parts to withstand it. Putting a stall convertor in it would make it more possible, but because of the turbo lag you are better able to control rev to control the turbo. I'm not saying people can't do it.. I just think it is pointless. IMO...

I think its for people too scared to drive a manual... and get good at it... I have seen turboed autos and raced them... and if you don't have the balls to control it on your own then by all means turbo that auto all the way. I just know my car.. I can optimize all my shift points and it will be the smoothest ride you will ever feel.

Then again I am not going to hate on anyone who wants to better their car and some people have an auto and thats what they have to work on.. and its their preference to just slap a turbo on where as I would do a swap and then slap the turbo on.. To each his own.

Like I said it is just an opinion thing I'm not saying I am right, but I have never really met a true car fan who was proud to have an auto lol. I keep one for my daily driver in the city and thats the extent of that.

Posted by: MissRiotMaker

I will however, give it to you that you will never miss a gear in an automatic.. and that is of course good, and if you are boosting really high psi.. then that is a plus.

Ignorance is bliss.

When the automatic isn't some POS made by Honda, they are great for turbo motors. You can get up into boost quickly because of the torque converter, never loose boost on shifts, and be quicker because of the lack of shifting. You say people only get autos because they are scared of manuals, but have you ever driven something fast with an auto? Is it a coincidence that DSM guys with automatics are running 9's with trap speeds of 135-140 MPH, while it takes guys with a 5-speed typically 145-150 MPH to get 9's? I'll give you a hint, it's because it's pretty hard to launch under boost with a stick, and you don't hold boost through shifts. Also, look at the cost of built transmissions. To run 9's on a 5-speed you're looking at about 6500-7000 dollars invested between a transmission and a good twin plate clutch. Maybe 1000 bucks into the automatic for a new torque converter and a different, high pressure manual valve body. Granted auto's and a road course don't mix, but on the street you can easily have less lag and a more streetable car with an auto.

built motor (87mm wisecos, N1 pumps, HKS cams, etc), HKS GT2530's, OS Giken twin plate, etc.

And if you think I don't know S13's.....

Maybe on some cars. On DSM's, you can get a built 5 spd tranny for $2000 and another $1000 for a good clutch.

Yes it is hard to launch under boost with a stick, unless you have a stutterbox.

Yeah, its running an aftermarket header after the 1st engine died due to swallowing a butterfly screw from the intake runners.

Got it for 4k off MSRP since I was still working for the dealership back when I bought it (nov 05), it replaced my 2001 Infiniti G20 that got wrecked after just 1 month of owning it.

Almost at 40k of miles on it right now, paid off, and looking to get a bike (SV650) so I can buy a '95 S14 and build it for some time attack

Its funny having always owned Nissan/Infiniti... (1995 200SX SE-R, 1990 240sx, 2001 G20, 2006 SE-R) I don't think I can consider buying any other brands....

W-O-W

I never denied anything that you said. I said it is a PREFERENCE an Opinion.

Who really cares what anyone thinks?? Let go of your testosterone and chill out just because a girl on the internet offended you.

I don't really care who does what with their auto or manual. I find DSM guys are the only guys that really do turbo their autos. Like I said before I am not going to hate on anyone. I know a guy trying to sell his eclipse running 20 psi on an auto. He's got thousands put under the hood, but no one wants it simply because its an auto. I'm sure in many places it would sell the day it went up for sale.

Lol so don't think you have to tell me about launching with boost or that you lose it during shifts.. Obviously I know about that already =) Thanks though!

It is REALLY NEW, it's a first year model and the first shipment that dealers got was on 10/9 or 10/10 (can't remember) and I was the first delivery from the dealer that I got it from. Give it a few months and you will probably start seeing more of them, everyone I know you sees the car says it's really sleek and that they would buy one so I'm guessing a lot more people will also think like that.

I believe it's just a sportier Passat. Kinda of like the GTI is a sportier Golf and the GLI is a sportier Jetta I believe it's the same concept. Cause on my insurance it says I have an '09 Passat but the sticker for the car says '09 VW CC so I don't know.

You're right. Went to Wikipedia and it says it shares its chassis with the Passat, but the car is longer, lower, and wider, and it only seats 4. I'd much rather have this car than a Passat.

I told him to forget the Passat that I wanted to test drive the CC and then we all see what happened after that lol.

The CC is like a trimlevel of the passat...but not. Heh.. I like the CLS-like side profile.

CLS like? NO lol there is NOTHING out there quite like a CLS only thing close and that even truly resembles it is the new Jaguar. and even then its a desperate attempt to be like MB

I beg to differ.

Did I say carbon copy or something? Sheesh.. sorry for angering your God? Maybe I'm misreading your response, if so I'm sorry...

Did you read what I said? "CLS-like SIDE PROFILE" as in similar.

The side lines, the short window space and the back to the rear bumper does look very similar to the CLS, no offends to the proud owner of the MB . You gotta admitt, nowadays automobile manufacturers are taking design, ideas and tweak it a little, adds some elements and call it their own, look at the new Accord, most of the Lexus.... that's jus how the market are and how it will be. You should be glad other automobile company is getting ideas from your choice of automobile but not from a kia, right? I take it as a compliment when I see other vehicle have similar design than mine. Cheers

let's go down the line here....

1993 F-150 Farm Truck <--back when fords had the in-line six and were actually good trucks. Totalled, rebuilt and given to my grandad.

1997 gmc sonoma <---4 banger.. lowered.. built for racing

2000 Ford Explorer Sport Prerunner - <-- POS. had lightbar on it and fiddled with it here and there. Did good on trails for 2wd but it hit 90k miles and i was investing $200+/month in repairs on engine. Said to hell with it and traded it when I found my current love.

1998 Chevy Tahoe 4dr 4wd -<--- I LOVE it. Got a damn good deal on it when gas was 3.50+ around here. Gets as good of gas mileage in city as the sploder, but better on highway. Got a set of straight pipes from the cats back put on w/no mufflers bout 2 weeks after I got it. It purs. I would've installed it myself, but welding around a gas tank is one thing I don't do because I don't want to go boom. Currently got my eyes on a 6" lift and 35x13.50s & new gearing. May make a trip to 4wheelparts in memphis next time they have a big sale.

Yea i know. I'm a big ol' redneck.

Damn Just take that beauty to the Detailer. I thought having flat black wheels would be good for brake dust etc but i was wrong it is so easy to see the stuff on them i am trying to find a teflon coating to use on them to make that stuff a lil easier to keep off and wash off

I am the resident detailer (well, at least for the family cars, lol)

Try using WheelWax (that's the name of the product)...it definitely helps with cleaning off the brake dust. I use it and it's definitely helped quite a bit...cut down cleaning time from 1hr to 45 minutes

I'm not running a front plate.
For long road trips I just zip-tie the front plate to the mesh of the bumper.
Luckily I have not been hassled yet but once that happens, I'll put it on.

It's been a lot of highway miles and I currently commute ~70 miles a day for work in it and get 30mpg on the highway. People are always amazed at the mileage I get as they assume it's a gas hog. Well, it CAN be. You just gotta keep the foot out of it.

Last year was my first HPDE and I'm hooked and intend to do a lot more events with it. HPDE is so much fun.

Posted by: BoardshortMafia

Yeah, because it has so much power the engine is hardly working to get the car moving. That's why a 500hp Z06 and easily get almost 30mpg on the highway (it's rated at 24mpg, but if you drive it right I've heard of people getting more than that).

Posted by: ZOMGuy

Ya, my mom's Mustang GT is rated at 21mpg highway but I can easily get 27-28 out of it, which is better than my Neon used to get.

Well, it's been a while since I've posted here (a LONG while, actually... over a year), and last time I posted here I believe I posted up my new '07 Altima 3.5SE V6 in Precision Grey.

Well, that's gone now. Traded it for this:

'08 Dark Slate with the Premium Package

It's got Arizona plate (front one removed) and much darker windows on it these days though...

I'm actually thinking about trading it yet again since A. I don't need something this big, B. I don't need FWD anymore, and C. I'm sick of automatic.

C230 Sport maybe..? Hmm...

Edit: Camera fail, I know. I'm working on that one as well.

I've been thinking about that. Yeah it's a little hot during the summer (Jun-Aug is A/C weather for sure), but I'm actually a little more worried that my choice of convertible would be considered a "chick car"... E46 330cic

Unfortunately something like an S2000 just isn't practical enough... need 4 seats.

Yeah, there really aren't a lot of decently-sized 4 seater convertibles right now.

You could also go American... Chrysler Sebring, Pontiac G6 or Ford Mustang.

It's not so much that it's just that I don't want to be insuring a 2-seater convertible sports car before I'm 25.

Those are kinda girly too

I guess it's a shame that Pontiac discontinued Firebird Trans Am convertibles any more.... That would be right up your alley. :P

Haha well the convertible is anyway... Maybe just the V6... I dunno.

Something smaller and sportier for sure... just has to have at least a sunroof. I like the G35 coupe but the interior kinda bothers me. Can't quite stretch for a new one... trying to cut back a bit here.

What the..?

Pics please...

Posted by: AgeNt B

lolz for now im going to leave my headlights alone, but my right fog is out so I might do the HID upgrade and get some 3000K fogs. Those are the yellowish ones but they have very good visibility. Also one of my dam sidemarkers burnt out. Might replace those with leds.

Posted by: huskyfan23

15000k is way too high. Once you get up above ~4300k the amount of usable light greatly decreases.

Posted by: Carl G35c

6000K is the highest I would ever go for HIDs... like husky said its not usable so it isnt worth it

3000k is the best thing you can use to be a fog light. It's the best at cutting through fog, snow, steam etc.

And yes, anything above 6000k is pointless, useless and "just asking for it".

My OEM's are 4300k.

Dunno, I think the facelifted E46's and all the rears of the E46's look better than the E90/92. I think BMW kinda missed on the E92. I saw the new M3 in person yesterday... I gotta be honest...

1994 Black Dodge Stealth RT/twin turbo AWD
400HP Mitsubishi V6 intercooler, 6SP Getrag German transmission.
0-60 in 4.2 seconds. The car hisses like a cobra when I kick it into high gear, and at top speed my wipers flap to the point they appear they might break off! Got to use the 92 octane though and with the price of gas I don't go far!
The previous owner added several modifications to it, however I bought it from a 3rd party so I'm not exactly sure what was done to it.
I only drive it in Summer and can't go one day without someone trying to race me, it's quite annoying actually. But it's a nice car, a Ferrari at 1/10th the cost. Paid only 12,000 for it.

In some parts of Japan they even use it as police vehicles.

During the winter season I drive a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI with over 300k on it.

Not at the moment, still waiting to buy a decent digital camera and no I haven't brought my car to the autodrome yet. It's fast but not that fast. However if I am going to race it will be on the drag strip rather than the streets.

15000K eh?

http://howardforums.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=1881

Y'all have a lot in common. Location, phone, provider, love for overdone and overworked vehicles and apparently 15000K HID bulbs.

Just saying....

Also, break checking is kind of an ******* thing to do. There's a member here who was in a serious accident with his motorcycle because someone decided to break check him.

Lots of people here are Asian as well...

Also, using the term riceburner and having the signature you do is very stereotypical
