Hey for all you car owners... this was brought to my attention by "AM Radio" - it was a great documentary, but for those of you who missed it, here is the link:

http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/...gta/index.html#

Car theft/vandalism sucks.

Thanks ,that was interesting reading. I have to admit, I do feel a little better having a car alarm.

I just saw the show on TV tonight on CBC. Alarms??? people can easily steal your car with an alarm. Alarms are a thing of the past. They say the best thing would be an immobilizer. Most manufacturers have immobilizers on their cars, and by 2005 all new cars in Canada must have immobilizers.

They said "Hondas" are the most stolen cars in North America, I'm not surprised.

Ford Windstar: gone in 45 seconds!

not bad for a guy with only one foot ...

I watched it last night too.

It ticked me off though that the thief ( or ex-thief ) said it's not their fault for stealing and car owner has some responsiblity too.

So, if my car got stolen, it's my fault that I leave my car on the street for scumbags like them to steal ? And it's my fault because I couldn't afford a car with immobilizer ?

Maybe I can go kill someone now and claim it's the victim's fault to be alive!

thats like saying its the dog fault for grabbing the bone you put on the floor right infront of him then left the room. btw very good show, loved the scene where after he said he could steal just about anything after 9 min of trying to start the jimmy he gets out & yells "****ing ******** jeep!"

Yeah I hear ya... to an extent the theif MIGHT be right - it is not their fault they are out to steal a car, in order to get some money for thier drug addiction... it's the family's fault, the schools, the judicial system - society in general.

But when he said the car owners have some responsibility too !!! yeah right buddy! If this guy is going to blame stealing cars on car owners, I can just as easily turn around and use his argument... blame society becasue im not driving a car with an immobilizer. Punk @ss... it's time people like that take responsibility for thier actions, and stop laying blame on the victims.

"it's not may fault i stole those jeans... it was just sitting there - retailers have to take some responsibility for product placement..."

Here is a question - are the "most stolen car" statistics adjusted to the number of cars around?
You can say that 15000 Neon's are stolen a year, but if there are 100x that number on the road, the theft rate is actually only 1%.
On the other hand, if there is 1 Ferarri in the country and it gets stolen, the rate of theft is 100% but its probably at the very bottom of "most stolen" lists.
I know that in Calgary the police service puts out monthly lists of most stolen cars and I'm pretty sure they don't adjust it, making them very misleading. "Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra Most stolen vehicle" - yes, because there are more of those than any other pickup around!!! (etc. etc.)

yeah I was wondering that too... I don't think it has been adjusted... and of course honda civic is at the top of the list - it's canada's most popular vehicle!

It was an interesting documentary, that's all I can say.

great sig (the adbusters one)

did you notice that the thief (with one real foot), when he was picking out cars to steal on granville street and adjacent parking lots, didn't mention "stick" or "automatic"?

when the reporter asked him how he can steal with only one foot, he answered "haven't you driven with one foot? you only need one foot to drive."

i guess that means he isn't stealing standard cars?

meanwhile, all the junkies in the bait cars ... weren't they all stick?

Posted by: sefcik19

yeah i noticed that... so i guess if your car is stick, the guy whose gonna steal it has both feet

Posted by: Frosty Vibe

BTW, why did the thief break the windows of some cars ?

I mean, shouldn't he be more discrete and "smooth" as opposed to have everyone look over their shoulders ?

yeah i suppose but a) it's a smash and grab job (literally), and b) no one calls the cops on hearing broken windows (just like car alarms) so i guess it doesn't really matter. unfortunately .

he couldn't defeat the locks ...

the guy was like sweating like hell after his break-ins

you can drive stick w/ one foot, its really not that hard.

gas->clutch->gas.

sure you can... in the countryside, when you aren't trying to make a gettaway, and there are no traffic lights . you'll need to include the brakes in that equation, especially when your're in the city... hence 2 feet.
