This is pretty far fetched but does anyone know the gprs settings for China mobile? I'm taking my mio to shanghai and want to be able to use it there. Thanks!

I have no idea what settings to change for China Mobile. I'm just curious is to how you like your phone. I'm thinking of getting one but a bit weary considering the price and how well it will work. Do you use it on Rogers or on Fido?
Thanks,
Steve

I did a quick search & managed to put this together. It took about three internet sites (one chinese
) to get all the China Mobile GPRS data together so don't be surprised if something don't work. It should be OK though. Are you planning to use a China Mobile SIM card or will you be roaming on their network using your own SIM card ?
You may not need the CSD WAP dialup but its there just in case.

Wow, this is a hard one to find. I usually do a search and look for the APN's first but there is very little info on peoples GPRS. These are the three sites I did find with some GPRS data. Does it agree with the information you were already given ?

I believe that *106# is used to activate GPRS from your phone.
I have created separate GPRS connections for the Internet and WAP connection. This is so you experiment with data as I am not absolutely sure if you need username/password/DNS in the internet connection. It is also posible that you may need Mobile Internet activated from the network provider to access full (unrestricted) Internet.
From internet explorer, http://(address) uses the Internet connection and wsp://(address) uses the WAP connection. Try and connect to web sites and wap sites using both protocols. Let us know if you have any luck

thanks a ton mate!
i actually got online (before reading your post) by fiddling with the GPRS settings. i in fact got the same WAP setting as you by accident and it worked. the only difference is i set my internet to the wap connection as well whereas you have created a separate one for the internet.
haven't tried the MMS settings yet but will do.
for some reason i cannot sign into yahoo with explorer but i can with agile messenger. with agile i can see my friends online and also receive messages from them but cannot send. anyone know why?
back to hammering the internet on my mio - peoples hk have waived the transmission fee till end of year starting from yesterday woohoo!!!!

Your right. Usually when the network provider only gives a single (internet) APN then you can just allocate it to both Internet & WAP connections. I already do this as I have unlimited internet access and there's no need for me to use a restricted WAP APN.
I had included a second GPRS data connection with username, password & DNS mainy because I found it on the Motorola site and even though these settings are worth noting, there's nothing to confirm them being correct. Still maybe Motorolla know something we don't.
Problems arise when Network Providers have a chargable internet APN and a non chargable WAP APN. If you setup the smartphone as Internet Connection=Internet APN and WAP Connection=WAP APN then you would be charged for accessing http://wap.google.com but wsp://wap.google.com would be free even though they are both the same WAP site. CRAZY
I have read that the peoples network has a subscribed 'Mobile Internet' service so even though there is a single APN for everybody and all phones there could be a certain amount of internet blocking for unsubscribed users. It's hard to really tell how the network has set itself up and it means playing with the phone and trying a few things to determine what service your network has given you.
What I would probably do is set IE to Select Network=The Internet and untick 'auto detect settings' and try these.
1 Access http://wap.howardforums.com from the mio and try to login as a Member.
2 Download a file over GPRS. Try a file from http://www.4smartphone.dk/mobile/programmer.asp accessed from the mio. (space invaders is good)
3 If you have setup your Email then try connecting and downloading E-mails.
If they all work the you definately have full internet service.
