Z600 and TZones help

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Moppet52

Hi,

I just purchased a Sony Ericsson Z600 and love the phone. However, I am unable to use my TZones with it and can get no support from TMobile as they do not sell or support the phone. I entered the correct settings from the TMobile web site (APN, IP address, etc.), but when I hit the TZone web site the screen goes blank and just sits there.

Any information would be appreciated.

I have the same problem.....the Tech people tell me that they are aware and are working on it....even though the phones are unlocked T mobile is not receptive to the settings

Posted by: editguy

I'm also having the same problem. I hope they get it solved soon.

Posted by: japflare

Seeing as I got the answers for you guys I guess I'll give them to you. For connecting to the internet, T-zones as you have said is a problem T-mobile is working on.

Ok follow closely:

First you have to set up your Data Account:
1) Goto Menu-Connectivity-Data comm.
2) Select "Preferred service" and make sure it is on "GPRS and GSM" if it isn't then select it
3) Select "SMS access" and make sure it is on "GSM" and if it isn't then select it
4) Select "Data accounts"
5) Select "New account"
6) Select "GPRS data"
7) Name it whatever you want, I named mine "T-Mobile GPRS"
8) Now choose to edit the "APN", here you will enter in "wap.voicestream.com" (without the quotes of course)
9) Select "Save"
(NOTE: The User id, Password, IP address, and DNS address will all be left blank, this should be their default, but if there is something entered in be sure to delete it)

Now that you have created a Data Account onto configuring your WAP settings
1) Goto Menu-Connectivity-WAP options-WAP profiles
2) Select "New profile"
3) Enter in any name you wish, I entered in "GPRS"
4) Edit the "Connect using" and choose the Data Account that you made above
5) Edit the IP address, enter in "216.155.165.050" (without the quotes)
6) Select "Save"

And that my friends is how to set up the internet for a Z600.

And just because I'm at work and I have nothing else to do, let me tell you how to set up your Picture MSGs.
1) Goto Menu-Messaging-Picture-Options
2) Select "WAP profile"
3) Select "Select"
4) Now choose the WAP profile that you made above
5) Go back to the Options screen
6) Select "Message server"
7) Enter in "74.84/servlets/mms" (without the quotes, hopefully you've caught on to that by now)

And there you have it, your phone is set up to use with T-Mobile. Hope that helps you guys out took me awhile to get all that information gathered up from sites and actually calling Sony Erricson for the Picture set up. If you don't understand any of the above, then FORGET you, I made it pretty much idiot proof!

Posted by: Moppet52

Thank you for posting the detailed instructions. However, I have done all of these steps and still am not able to reach the internet. Oddly enough, I was able reach wap pages like espn and yahoo but just not by tzone page.

Now, I cannot reach any wap page at all. And I have not changed any settings on the phone. Very frustrating.

Posted by: editguy

japflare,

Thanks for the post. I have spent lots of time with t-mobile and I think I had all the setting right, but it is nice to have everything in one concise post.

I reset everything, but am still getting the white page with mytmobile. Other sites like sonyericsson work just fine. I think the problem is with T-Mobile. Can you get the tzones homepage?

Posted by: japflare

Let me apologize, my instructions from before will only set you up to access the internet, but not T-zones. My understanding on that matter is limited. It has been explained to me that T-mobile is at fault there, and it has something to do with their servers. I'm not all too sure what the problem is, but if I do come across how to access T-zones I'll post that.

Posted by: chairmike

thanks for your instructions but alas i still have the same problem.......T-mobile has not been set up to receive unlocked Z 600........i will post if i find out when they fix it......maybe you know how to retain password for Yahoo...i selected retain passwords yet it still request sigh in each time....I also cannot get on aol mail....thanks

Same here can't access the T-zone page, but also can't access msn mobile too.

Maybe I just entered the wrong address for msn mobile, mobile.msn.net?

One more question I can't seems to send SMS with image to any other t-mobile user. People can't view the image I SMS to them. However if i do a email it work. I do had the $4.99 internet plan, the rep told me that I should me able to send picuture sms.

Don't know if this is normal when sending SMS. When I sedn a SMS it will go through the internet, the earth icon will pop up when the message is being send.

Posted by: mbtek69

I understood that there is a f/w upgrade for this. Adam at gsmphonesource emailed this to me. BTW, where did you buy your phones from? Maybe you all have the same f/w. I also know that there a problems on the west coast with this phone's compadability with tzones. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by: bgolfn

spoke to t-mo today and they said for the west coast 5 to 24 hrs and they gave me 100 min

Posted by: DaveTreo300600

Some of the issues addressed in this forum may be due to T-Mo's differnt approaches to internet usage. A very good thread covering all of the T-Mo Internet plans is at http://howardforums.com/showthread....+%2Bs upported

Posted by: bgolfn

Thanks for thread. I can use all the help I can get......T-Mo is driving me crazy

Posted by: l_c

About the blank T-Zones deck (wap.myvoicestream.com), from prior posts it seemed like that started a couple
of months ago, when they started rejecting all client types (phone models) that they don't officially support.
This is my main complaint (I get an empty page when using my T226) ... I can WAP browse to any other internet site though. Larry.

Posted by: bgolfn

I have called T-mo every day. Same answer. So far they have given me 100 min and $15 Is anyone getting the same, and is this only on the wet coast US?????

Posted by: HelioPause

I just got the Z600 and really love it, but my TZones will not work either. I spoke to Tier2 tech support, though, and they issued a trouble ticket. The tech said that they can't wait to get their hands on the phone and hope it gets picked up on TMO soon.
Does anyone have the DE, FR, IT version of this phone? It will say the version after your cover colours. My says "Silver & Night."
Thanks.
BTW, this picture was taken with the Z600 in low light.

Posted by: mbtek69

I called as well. The master ticket number is 528056. I talked with Emily from engineering and she said they were working on a fix. Apparently their gateway is going through some kind of upgrade? i hope this gets fixed! Atleast email, sms and mms work. I have some bookmarks that help work around it somewhat. I love this phone. It is Bada**!! I am in florida, so I think it is nationwide. I also found out that all non tmo wap 2.0 phones are going throught this. I have read Nokia, Tmobile, Motorola and SE forums. There are alot of people going throught this as well. Tmo said that their are over 1700 complaints of this issue.

Posted by: bgolfn

Well check this I was told this am that T-mo will not support phones that they dont sell.... I should contact SE??????

Posted by: l_c

Their gateway (around Sep 2002, when they got cookie support) was Artus version 3.0 but I wonder what they're using now.
Neither the voicestream custhelp database nor the T-Mo (developer) discussions seem to shed light on our difficulties ... Larry.

Posted by: bgolfn

Thanks Larry...All we can do is keep looking usless they figure it out....

Thanks, it works great except for one small problem... I cant read German, but its good to see that T-zone works some where. We are always the last ones.....

Posted by: l_c

Well, I could always browse the (UK or whatever) t-zones ... but what I have been trying to access
is the T-Mobile USA WAP deck (which was istream, Voicestream). URL is wap.myvoicestream.com

ok guys, you are really
hard to yourself.

if you use the following as your startadress
(homepage) you can use t-zones in
english or us language

wap.t-zones.com

for german language

Posted by: bgolfn

Hey Der_mittelfrank, that is your site over there. What we are having a problem with is the US site is not allowing us to use our Z600 and T-mo will not give us the support because they do not sell the phone. But thanks for the site anyway

Posted by: l_c

Yeah, I don't want the UK content (news, clubs, whatever) from wap.t-zones.com
I want to read the T-Mobile USA WAP deck which is wap.myvoicestream.com
I noticed that it does work from a Nokia 3100 (which I figured is "unsupported"),
but still I see emptiness on my T226 ... and I think it's not just blocking phone models,
it has more to do with the browser (user-agent) passing. SonyEricsson added a bunch
of handset specs (the xml) just last month, let's hope that Voicestream/T-Mobile fixes this now.

Thanks glad to see its not only the z600 Hopefully they (T-mo)will get off there ---and fix it.

Posted by: l_c

I tried the online sevice (custhelp/voicestream), only managed to get this far --
Code:
Response (Data Escalations01) - 12/03/2003 05:57 PM Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Regarding your Trouble Ticket 528056 (which is an Engineering Ticket), it is currently in "working" status. According to the ticket, it is regarding Intermittent WAP failures to Top Deck. There is no Estimated Time of Resolution on this issue.

Maybe if enough people ask, they might create a FAQ response; Larry.

Posted by: japflare

Here is what T-Mobile told me via e-mail:

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile.

Unfortunately, that phone's browser is not yet supported by T-Zones. We apologize for any inconvenience.

If you have any other comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at anytime.

Thank you for choosing T-Mobile.
Sincerely,

T-Mobile USA, Inc.

That just sucks

Posted by: rpfotog

Thanks to everyone who posted to this forrum. The various messages have helped me understand what's going on and successfully work around it. Using my new Z600 I am seemingly able to access every wap site on the planet except T-Mobile's USA T-zones site. As far as I'm concerned, it's their loss not mine.

best--

Rob

Posted by: chairmike

what about AOL?...and can you keep passwords?I have given up on Tzones as well

Posted by: rpfotog

never tried aol. what's the address?

Posted by: chairmike

either aol.com....or mobileaol.com

Posted by: mbtek69

I finally figured a way around Aol. It took some time, but this is what I did. I went to aol uk. http://mobile.aol.co.uk/redesign/index.jsp.
Then I logged in there, you have to set up your mobile account.,(free). Then I bookmarked in the address aol gave me and it works. Also, it remembers you, it has a auto log in for mobiles. I think the Uk mobile site is better than us. But thats what I did, screw Tmo, there is always a backdoor! . If you have problems with it pm me.

Posted by: chairmike

thanks a lot....it worked...Tmobile and MMode are useless....

Any new developments on this issue?

Posted by: mbtek69

Not that I know of. I got a V600 because I couldnt stand it anymore!

Posted by: SpYder

come on T-Mo!!! get with it... fix your gateway, make it compliant with the new technologies in all the enw phones.... *sigh* ... why are we still in the dark ages?

Posted by: bgolfn

Does anyone have the ear of t-mo???? How do we get them to understand that we HAVE already purchased there service and we need to be SERVED. You would think that with the amount ow people that have already called about the problems that they would get on the ball. Might have to re-think my change from cingular as they are about to swallow up att

Posted by: Dreamavenger

Any word yet on the t-zones issue? I will have my Z600 tomorrow and I use my t-zones (Atomic Dove) pretty extensively! When I talked to Tmo a few days ago, they said that the phone is more then likely coming to their service! Which would mean that it has to work in order for them to sell it. But like with any post in here they could not give me a date on when the Z600 would be introduced.
I bet if enough people complaint and said they are going somewhere else that DOES support the internet through the newer phones that they will get off their lazy *sses and fix the problem.

DreamAvenger

Posted by: caseyboy

Ok, so quick question ... is the t-zones home page working with the SE T610? I was going to buy an unlocked T630, but hesitated because of all the problems with t-zones. But, I just checked the specs at SonyEricsson.com and both the T610 *and* the T630 are listed as using cHTML and WAP 2.0.

So, if it works with a T610 (which T-Mobile carries) why not with the T630 or Z600??

Posted by: Dreamavenger

I spoke with Tmo 2 days ago and was told that the problem with T-zones should be fixed. I haven't tried it yet so I can't tell you anything usefull, I should be able to tell you in a week or so.

Posted by: caseyboy

Hey all - check out this thread:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=310788

It was originally in the Nokia forum and is now in the T-Mobile one as well. It is mostly geared towards Nokia 6600's but should work for SE T630 and Z600, I think.

While I'm still not sure if the problem with the SE T630/Z600 and t-zones is a WAP 2.0 issue or a "blocked unsupported phone" issue I do know that now Nokia's are working ... so if one "unsupported" phone is able to access the t-zones wap site, than they should all be able to access it!!

Uhhh ... so frustrated with this situation

Posted by: Box215

T-Zones is working for my Z600 now...are anyone elses Z600/T630 working now as well?

Posted by: joebird

I can't get it to work with my Z600 -- how did you do it? Can you share your settings?

joe

Posted by: Box215

Yeah, sure.

IP address: 216.155.165.050

Create a new account. Choose GPRS data and Name it.

APN: wap.myvoicestream.com
no user id or password

Under advanced:
Nothing for the second account, used id, password, security off, and show pictues is on.

i think thats all. If i missed something or it doesnt work, please tell me!

Posted by: caseyboy

So, I have a black unlocked T630 from T-Mo UK and for me at least, the above settings are not working. Here's a detailed breakdown of how I configured the phone:

Main Menu ---> Connectivity ---> WAP Options ---> WAP Profiles ---> T-Zones (what I named the profile). The settings for my profile are as follows: Connect Using ---> Data Accounts ---> T-Mobile GPRS (again, what I named the account).

IP address: 216.155.165.050

As far as setting up the Data Account, here's what I did: Main Menu ---> Connectivity ---> Data comm. ---> Data accounts ---> T-Mobile GPRS.

APN: wap.myvoicestream.com

When I try to connect, the browser boots up and says "Loading" ... "Connecting" ... "GPRS parameters not supported" ... "Communication error. Try again or contact your WAP service provider."

And boom! That's all she wrote. So, no more luck than I've had with any of the other setting. Ugghhh, so frustrating!!

Same problem here. I changed the wap.myvoicestream.com to wap.voicestream.com and don't get the error anymore, but t-zones still doesn't work.

I bought my Z600 on Saturday 15 May in NYC, NY and use T-Mobile in the US. After speaking with tech support at T-Mobile they SMS'd settings to my phone which I accepted and was able to access T-Zones. Starting either late on Sunday or early Monday I no longer could access T-Zones ... all I got was a blank, white page.

I called T-Mobile yesterday (Tuesday, 18 May) and they told me the network was down in my local area and would be back up at 6am local time the next day (19 May). They gave me 50 bonus minutes.

All day today (19 May), I've tried accessing T-Zones and I've only gotten blank, white pages. I called again today and my problem was escalated to their data group. Again, they sent me the configuration, I accepted, and still no T-Zones access. Again, they gave me another 50 bonus minutes and gave me a trouble ticket.

From what I've read at this forum, I don't think this will get resolved. Had I known of this problem Saturday, I would not have bought the Z600 - although I am very enthusiastic about the phone otherwise.

Ironically, I can access other WAP sites and have no problems sending SMSs (although I can't seem to send MMS despite trying the myriad configurations posted here - but that's not so important to me).

I would love to be in touch with people in my same situation so we can continue to compare notes and go after T-Mobile as a group. I will continue to pursue this and post updates when possible.

Great forum, by the way - glad to find it!

Posted by: caseyboy

If it makes you feel any better, we are all having the exact same problem. In fact it seems that most all Sony Ericsson phones that T-Mobile does not sell share this little pain. The T630 that I had did the same blank, white page thing as my current Z600 does. And yes, I agree with you .. it is VERY FRUSTRATING!!

I find it especially ironic because you can actually go to the T-Mobile online configurator site, choose Z600 and have an SMS sent to your phone with the settings. but then it still doesn't work. This has been happening since at least January and T-Mo has yet to solve it.

This morning (23-May) just by chance I tried T-Zones again (after having not attempted in
the past 4 weeks or so) and for the first
time ever, the WAP deck worked! This is using
my Ericsson T39m, where T-Zones never
worked in the past (blank page).
About a month ago, I called and talked to a T-Mobile
CSR who
told me that T-Mobile would *not* be fixing the
WAP deck to work with SE WAP 1.2.x terminals,
and furthermore that the problem was SE's.
Anyway, yay! Larry;

Posted by: l_c

Sorry for the joyful news but later yesterday (23-May), when I WAP connected to T-Zones again, it was
back to not working with my terminal. After yesterday morning, I don't see that WAP deck working so I'm thinking that T-Mobile USA might
have been testing an update. I hope they will
roll that out soon (I've posted a new question on this to voicestream custhelp Larry.

Posted by: chowxmien

It's because T-Mobile does not support this phone. It only supports the SE phones that they released such as the T68i, T300, T610 etc. Not the T616, T226, Z600, T630 etc.. However there is a workaround, you can flash your GDFS with the T610 default phone identifier. All that this does is make your phone show it's model as the T610 instead of something else. T-Zones will work fine with this and it does not mess up your phone. You can always flash it back with the appropriate default phone identifier.

The latest offering of T-Mobile's customer assistance on this issue --

Code:
Symptom t-zones home page does not display or displays blank page on handsets not sold by T-Mobile Symptom t-zones WAP deck homepage always displays blank page Symptom External WAP sites display normally but not wap.myvoicestream.com T-Mobile cannot guarantee the functionality of any non-T-Mobile device or software. Attempts can be made to configure unsupported handsets using over-the-air (OTA) updates or manual configurations; however, if unsuccessful, the issue should be escalated to WDS or the device manufacturer. When T-Mobile approves a specific handset for use on its network, it is ensured that the firmware of the model is optimized for T-Mobile's network. Unsupported handsets may have inadequate ways of logging on to and initiating communication with the network. The typical end result seen is that the t-zones homepage displays as completely blank and empty without an error message, even though other WAP sites show normally. Here are some steps to try to resolve this issue: Verify that the WAP settings are correct. If settings are not available, contact WDS. Contact the equipment manufacturer for any updated software or firmware. If these steps do not work, then unfortunately there is nothing that can be done by T-Mobile for unsupported handsets. A fully t-zones compatible handset can be purchased from www.t-mobile.com.

Posted by: l_c

T-Zones worked fine again this morning (Fri 28-May) (using my T39m) ... then later today, briefly there was an error like "page not found on site". Then after that, back to the regular
empty i.e. no work. So, they're definitely testing something. When it works (the regular T-Zones), do the URLs usually have "deck2" i.e. myvoicestream.com/deck2/xxxyyyzzz? Something I noticed, maybe it's always had deck2. Larry.

After much harranging for the last week on this, numerous calls to customer support (I don't even want to tell you how they messed up the incident report and the *bad* customer service), I finally arrived at a solution.

What I realized was that I was using T-Zones primarily for my email. Well, I thought, there had to be another solution than just T-Zones. I couldn't find a WAP gateway that would read email, but I did find a Java app, and it was easy to download and install and, best of all, IT WORKS! Over WAP. No more T-Zones. No need to pay the fee.

Here's the deal:

Go to http://www.reqwireless.com/wap and download EmailViewer. It will install a JAR (java) file in your Games & Other apps. Run it and set it up. That's it! Done. Works over WAP. POP, IMAP and Hotmail support. Has lots of great features too. For more info, see http://www.reqwireless.com/EmailViewer-3.0/README.html

And remember, WAP access is free. So, T-Mobile ... spoiled again!!!

Along the same lines, I'm wondering if there's a Java client for the phone that supports IMs??? AIM? MSN? Yahoo!? Jabber? That would be cool.

Posted by: l_c

Last night, T-Zones worked fine all night and I can use it today with no problems ... this is using my T39m and also my SE T226, where the T-Zones WAP deck never loaded in the past. Woohoo!
Seems like they've fixed the T-Zones USA WAP deck, but I'm afraid to tell them in case they decide to yank the functionality again; Larry.

p.s. The "Download Fun" pages don't work for these terminal types, but that's o.k. I like some of the other features, some of which work more quickly than the public Infospace access;
p.p.s. I read email via the pop/imap clients built into these phones' firmware, Z600 had that too;

Posted by: joebird

Well I'll be -- it's working (on my Z600)!!

I had all sorts of problems connecting to T-Zones with my Z-600 over the past 9 months.

Then this week I noticed an updated WAP routine at the Sony-Ericsson website. Entered my cell number, it downloaded, I followed the directions on the site, and VOILA!!! I had T-Zones.

The S-E website is http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp...ps1_1&pid=10104

The S-E website is http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp...ps1_1&pid=10104

i entered my number in there and never received the text message. did i enter my number wrong? i don't understand where it asks you to drop the first zero. i have an united states number. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Until quite recently, the SE z600 was NOT one of the officially supported phones for T-Zones in the US. Now, even though it's not one of the phones that T-Mobile distributes in the US (despite being WIDELY distributed by T-Mobile and Orange in the UK), it IS on the list of T-Zones-compatible phones, and I can happily report that it works beautifully with T-Zones now.

It took a few days to get the provisioning for my T-Zones account right. There have apparently been some glitches since August 1, when T-Mobile shut off access to "free WAP" for non-T-Zones accounts. But they're catching up with the backlog and getting accounts provisioned properly now.

As of this morning, T-Zones works ALMOST completely with my SE Z600. All pages render beautifully - no blank t-zones home page, with the only problem being in the "download fun" area. Those pages still come up with a "handset not recognized" error page. This is likely due to those few pages still checking the default phone identifier and not allowing Z600. I'm not especially concerned about that, though, as I don't have any plans to pay for ringtones, themes or games, when I can find more than enough content like that free elsewhere. All other T-Zones features work well, and all other WAP sites load just fine on the phone now.

So...it would appear that the ONLY issue with the Z600 and T-Zones in the US is "download fun", and my guess is that if this is important to you, changing the default phone identifer to "T610" will do the trick...

You can also have TMO reset your t-zone settings.... my girlfriend did that on her phone and it worked.... I will try tomorrow and see if it works for me too.

T630 on TMO USA and got the phone approx Nov 19 2004. T-Zones worked fine. I had config'd my WAP settings from the SonyEricsson web page wizard.

Now two weeks later and I'm getting the white page for T-Zones. Same thing as everyone else .... other WAP sites work fine.

Before I found this thread ... I even hard reset my phone back to factory defaults .... what a pain!!! That does no good by the way.

A user on alt.cellular.voicestream newsgroup provided me this work around.

Create sub-page bookmarks (My Money, My News, My Scores, etc) for all the content on T-Zones that you care about using a sanctioned phone. Then move them to the new phone. You can access all of them just fine. So this works as a good trick to side step the T-Zones "front door".

I've tried direct access to My T-Zones or T-Zones main several times and still just the blank white page. But at least the content pages are now working.
