GD87 cable work for a GU87 phone?

I called up a local cellphone shop and they said they only had a data cable for a GD87 phone, not a GU87. Then she told me that this cable simply will not work with a GU87 phone. My question is this:
Since the hardware of both the GD87 and GU87 phone are identical, will this cable work for either phone? Also since I would be using it to flash firmware would that screw up the phone since its not for the GU87 and only for the GD87.
Thanks in advance!

I just got a GD87 serial cable, hooked it up to Com1 on my pc (WinXP Pro), hook the other end to my GU87 (and nothing happend on the phone). Loaded the Edit Tool Software from Panasonic and it gives me a error...
"Please check the data cable is connected to the handset and handset is on idle screen"
The cable does infact fit in the GU87. And from what I read it should work, Plus the reply from o0MattE0o assured me that it would work also.. So why doesnt it??
Any help would be greatly greatly apreciated. Thanks In Advance.

Knowledge, try this. It may sound stupid, but others have had the same problem as you. When you load the Edit Tool Software, and it gives you the error message... click ok on the error, then click on File List near the top of the edit tool screen. It should sync up with your phone then. Stange i know, but it happens to alot of people.
Also, if you are planning on moving files to and from your phone, they must be in the "Recieved" folder on you phone. That is the only folder that Edit Tool reads. Good luck...
Also, just for kicks, cover pins 4 and 10 on the bottom of the phone, and try to run CB2000. It should go into test mode on your phone if indeed the cable is working. I assume since you want to flash your phone that you have the required software.

I have the same problem, when i tried 'click on File List', it connected to the handset, after a while, it said communication timeout.
how to get this thing works?

Thanks for all of the replys guys.
Dave Is, I havent tried the thing you said about the edit tool software but I did hook it up to CB2000 and Crack2D and they both timed out. So my guess is the cable just flat out will not work with the phone. I didnt cover pins 4 + 10 but I dont think I have to, since I just wanna get it to talk with a program... I would think?
So today I tried calling around town and looking for a cheap data cable designed for a GU87 and nobody had one except for the AT&T store but it was $50 bucks there... No way im paying $50 bucks for a 50/50 shot of getting the phone to work.
So I tried looking online and the cheapest place I found so far was a seller on ebay for $12 USD shipped... Good deal? Bad deal? Is there a better deal out there? I would like to find a cable for a GU87 and not a GD87 so if anybody knows of a place, please let me know.
Thanks again.

(P.S. the only reason I would like another cable is because I dont feel safe flashing the phone with a cable that you need to really fiddle with before it works... It may crap out during flashing and then I would be a very very sad man

I had the same problem with the cable. And to flash you need to cover pins 4 and 10.
Now when you try to synch your phone, i went to the port settings and speed and left the speed at 115,000 and left the DTR box unchecked, it of course game the the error.
Then i went to the file download, and i saw that if saw my contents of the folder in my phone which i put a picture in.
So it works even though it said that it does not work. I then uploaded files as well as changed some things in the phone book....
So it should work if you ignore and try many times to make it work with the panasonic program. My guess is that it doesnt work properly since its not a cable that you over pay for like a 50 bucks cable. On ebay is where i got mine for 11 or 12 shipped. Theres a guy who sells lots and lots of em...

Knowledge, to run CB2000 and Crack2d, you HAVE to cover pins 4 and 10 for it to connect to the phone. I don't know about a service cable, but both my Serial cable and my USB cable require both pins to be covered for it to connect with either CB2000 or Crack2d.
I have flashed with both the USB and the serial cable. They both worked no problem. The USB cable connects with Edit tool program no problem.

Well guys, I gave up on that cable I had. I didnt pay attention to the error in the Panasonic Edit Tool Software and it still didnt work. I played around in PETS (hehe) and I clicked all around and it just didnt work. Then I covered pins 4 and 10 and tried Crack2d and it didnt read the phone still... Then I re-tried PETS and that still didnt work... So I took the cable back to the lady that leant me the cable and now here I am. So I guess I'll trying buying one of ebay or get it unlocked locally.
Thanks alot for all of the info guys, Your help is always apreciated. And it does always help me
