Text Entry - keypad vs stylus

I have a Pocket PC (IPAQ 1910) but really only make use of the PDA functionality so I am going to buy a smartphone to combine my phone and PDA. I really like the text entry on my IPAQ using the Transcriber software, and am a little concerned that phones such as the Motorola MPX200 don't use a stylus for navigationa and text entry. Can anyone tell me if this is cumbersome, or maybe even easier than using a touch screen with a stylus? Small size is a very high priority for me when it comes to a smartphone as well. Thanks!

After relying on several Palms and Pocket PCs over the last few years, I too was concerned about text entry on the MPx200 vs. the stylus input I was used to.

However, T9 works really well and I'm getting pretty quick at it. The nice thing is, you can do text entry totally one-handed... Much easier to enter data while at a stoplight or while walking...

That's good to hear - thanks for the input. Another concern I'd like to get your feedback on: How does navigation suffer due to no touch screen. For example, if viewing the month view on the calendar on my Pocket PC, I can just tap the appointment I want to view to open it. How do you do this on phones like the MPX200?

When in the month-view on the Calendar on the MPx200, the date for "Today" is highlighted when you open the calendar... You can then move between dates by the directional-pad (arrow keys)... Select a date and hit the center button to view that date... You can add a new appointment by Menu-->New..

It's pretty easy actually
