Mitac to launch at least 10 Microsoft Smartphones in 2004

Mitac International, which launched the Mio 8380 Microsoft Smartphone in June, expects to launch at least 10 Microsoft Smartphones next year, said Samuel Wang, general manager of Mitac’s Mobile Communications Unit.
Wang demonstrated samples of four of the upcoming smartphones, including the Mio 8390, which was debuted at Computex Taipei 2003, in a media briefing yesterday. All four models feature a clamshell design, a built-in digital camera and Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 OS.
Mitac has been shipping the Mio 8380 to mobile phone operators in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia. Shipments of the Mio 8380 will reach 40,000 units this year, according to Wang. He declined to provide a smartphone shipment forecast for next year.
