You can use a data cable with Virgin Mobile, the midi format is the trouble right now...If you want to fry your phone you can try it... (I'll give you instructions, you can DEFINATLY transfer midi files from one Virgin VOX to another, I've done that....)

Thanx..Can u please post these instructions?

Using BitPim, (this only applies to the VOX, I don't know where midi miles go on the other 8500's)
You connect your 8500 with a data cable...
Using View Filesystem, File System tab, go to NVM directory, then MIDI directory,
Add files in the file naming MIDI00,MIDI01, MIDI02
note no file extensions...
that's it. Reboot your phone.

I've got one of the
data disabled Virgin Mobile phones and I'm deperate to try to download address book information.
I see from this thread that the phone is responsive to BitPim so I'm thinking of buying a data cable and doing some binary level file hacking to see if I can make it work.
Two questions, though:
1) Is it necessary to buy the full data kit (with software on CD), or can you live with just the cable. I've found the cable online for about $50
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/cellphonegear/453471.html
The version with software is closer to $100.
Given that none of this may work anyway, I'd like to do it as cheaply as possible.
2) Has anyone done the basic analysis of:
o Dump the filesystem into a PC
o Add/change an address book item via the phone itself
o Dump the filesystem again and analyze changes
If anyone currently has the BitPim/datacable lashup working with a Virgin phone and is willing to do this, I'd be happy to do the analysis...
