Question: Outlook phone book with dialing long distance issue

Hi P800 owners,

It's been bothering me that in MS Outlook's phonebook, all my contacts's phone number includes area code + local number. I synched with my P800 and P800 gets all the numbers. However, I have problems to auto dial out long distance calls. P800 doesn't recongnize a long distance number, so I have to manually input the numbers and then dial.

Is there another way to do it? Thanks for your ideas/inputs/thoughts. :-)

That's odd, Mine synchronizes the area code and I auto dial just fine. What version of PCSuite do you have ? (mine's 2.01, as of yesterday, but the 2 prior versions worked fine)

In Outlook, I format all my telephone numbers as + (country code) (area code) (number), so, a US number would be +1 212 555 1212, and, say a number in Toyko, Japan would be +81 3 39400000. This way, when you sync to the phone, all numbers are in a format that the phone recognizes to dial out, no matter where in the world you are, whther local, or long distance. Also, Outlook does recognize this format, and, say, typing in +1 xxx xxxxxxx, Outlook will reformat it automaticaly to +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx.

Thank you very much for your input!

I was hoping that P800 would know the number is long distance based on the area code (just like Outlook)... I guess I'll just have to edit all the numbers...

Thanks again.

Yes...this is quite annoying. I had to do it a while back as in order to send text messages I needed that format. A big pain, but the auto-dial should work with the phone no problem afterwards.

@ shaolinmonk

I don't think there's a way to set it up like that. I tried a year or so back and could not find any options to do it. I'm using Outlook 2000.
