P900 users i need your help on this

i currently have a clie(nx73v) and i mainly use it to record lectures. and now since the p900 is out, i'm planning to get one to replace the clie(cuz the clie is just too big to carry around).

However my decision will be based on whether the p900 has the ability to record directly onto the memory stick duo... cuz my friend has the p800 and it appears that the p800 can only record using the phone's memory, therefore, it can only record continuously for less than an hour.(which isn't enough cuz the 1 lecture is about 1.5 hour long)

so can someone who has the p900 help me out on this, also howz the quality of the recordings? and any other opinions on this would help greatly.

thanks guyz!

It can record to whichever folder you choose either video or sound Err, i'm not sure about the voice recorder but you could transfer your saves to the memory stick afterwards.

thnx for your reply, but what about recording quality? and does anyone out there who actually use the recording applications on the p900?

There is a video hosted on this forum that you can watch to get an idea of the sound and video quality. The P900 can record over 2 hours of video with sound to a 128mb memory stick. The memo recorder cannot record directly to a memory stick and is there for limited to a max of about 6-7 mb....

I would assume you would not care how you recorded sound, only that it can? You could put a piece of tape over the camera, lay it down on a table, etc....regardless, you will get the sound with a video only recorded to a stick....

WOW! More than the average full length porn. What would one do with the extra 45 minutes??

Thanks for your reply bengleboy, btw where is the video hosted? and what's your personal comment on the audio quality of the video recorder?

do u use ur clie to record in a big lecture hall (those for few hundred ppls) or in a classroom (no more then 25 ppls)

coz i am thinking of getting either a clie or a P900 also... it depends on which of them can record lecture hall's lecture clearly. so far my experience w/ my MD recorder is, if u record in a lecture hall, u need to have a microphone that is specifically for lecture hall's recording, for classroom recording, u will need a mic that is for private conversation. otherwise, u will have a hard time on listening back what u have recorded.

i know that the clie can switch the mic's sensitivity between lecture mode and private conversation mode. but i am not sure does the p900 has this kinda function, as i think the mic's sensitivity on the p900 is for private conversation only (classroom recording)

Can someone try to record in a lecture hall and see how's the sensitivity of the mic of the p900. That would be a great help and convince me to go for a p900 if that work.

PS: recording in an open area is also different from recording in a lecture hall.

The P900 mic is really only good for close recording. It doesn't pick up well if your more than 6 feet away.

voice recorder on the p900 is not a good solution. mainly just good for voice notes

i don't know if Sony makes a dedicated voice recorder that uses a MS duo, but that could be a good solution. then you can playback/manage the lectures on the phone.

actually the clie(or should i say the one i'm using-NX73V) has excellent quality for recording, even in huge lecture halls. and it's storage efficient, since 64MB memory stick can record for about 3 hours. but it's a little big and i wouldn't carry around other than going to class.

thanks for all the help everyone!
