The REAL update service for your P900 Firmware

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Cheech

Just click on this link to download the update app.

Posted by: jeffharris

The file has the name "seUS......" -- does that mean it is for US English P900's? Mine, like my P800, is still UK English. The last thing any of us want to do is flash incorrectly !

Posted by: Cheech

Sorry, I got this link from a guy at the Expansys forums. He said his P900 was updated to R3D by this but didn't explain enough as the file just installs to my PC and that's it.

No icons to start anything, maybe it's something we shouldn't see yet? He hasn't given any link to the SE website which could run these files as they seem to requrire Java. As for the seUS, well he is from the UK so it must be OK that is if we can find a way of doing it.

Posted by: jmburt

has anyone flashed there p900?
any issues...problems, tips or tricks?

Posted by: BVH

I got the file but am also looking for an answer to Jeff's Q before I flash as I have a UK English version also.

Posted by: jpjolo

alright I snooped around the folders this thing installed in, read anything I could . Still as clueless as when I started...

Posted by: Cheech

I await a reply from the guy who posted the link. He said his phone was flashed on the site but I can't find the page

Meanwhile maybe someone on these forums know anything. Oh sod it, i'm gonna ask SE support for an answer.

Posted by: AllGlobaltk

I think I got it done im trying it know.

Posted by: Cheech

Do you need a Java VM running?

Posted by: AllGlobaltk

I installed know cant find. I thought it would work by just running it but NO!

Posted by: Cheech

It's a bit of a mystery but I think you have to use a SE link to activate it. Trouble is, I can't find one on their site and the page it came from just says "No you don't!" maybe it's for developers only. Like a beta version or something

Posted by: bit_bucket

I believe that java client is called from the update website. So you would have to have the client installed like you have and then the website would have to be up and the P900 would have to be in the cradle. Of course I am speculating, someone who has done this would have to confirm...

As soon as the update site is up, I'll try it...

Posted by: Bengalboy

I honestly can't believe any of you would seriously consider trying to install a unknown program to your $1000 phone based upon a post in a forum.

If it doesn't come directly from Sony/Ericsson's site,,,you obviously have the kind of personality suited to Russian Roulette....just hope your P900's don't take it in the head on the first shot!

Posted by: AllGlobaltk

Its from SE site. its a www.sonyericsson.com i DL the R1D Swedish language pak and it worked fine. But no English update yet.

Posted by: bit_bucket

that being said. The link was to the app on SE's site...There were no obviscated url's (common hacker trick), so this is the updated app that sony will send out when you do updates using SEUS.

Posted by: AllGlobaltk

http://www.sonyericsson.com/updates...us_setup111.exe

Posted by: Bengalboy

Well,,,good luck to you fellows then,,,I'll wait until the site goes active. Please let us know what your firmware upgrades too?

Posted by: bit_bucket

lol...the whole point is that they will NOT be able to update their firmware until the site is active, as the updater is nothing without the website. People be patient...

Posted by: Cheech

Sorry to have posted an incomplete splution to upgrading firmware. I should have tried the app. before commenting, just wanted to be first with the news I suppose.

The 'US' in seus means Update Service. Pretty obvous when you consider it. I am waiting ot the guy who gave me the link to find out how he got the R3B update.

Hmmm,,,,I did not know that... Agreed, patience is a virtue...

Posted by: AllGlobaltk

My phone firmware is R2D but its in Swedish not English.

Posted by: Cheech

I may have solved the update problem. At least my P900 manual has some info on it.
Quote:
Sony Ericsson Update Service
Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS), is a way for the end user
to update the firmware of their phone on their own, using a
SEMC desk stand and any Internet-connected (preferably via
broadband) PC.
To update the P900 firmware
1. Connect the desk stand to your PC.
2. Visit the Sony Ericsson customer support site on the Web.
3. Download the SEUS application and run it.
Detailed instructions on how to proceed with the update
sequence is displayed.

Well whatever a SEMC desk stand is, it appears to be the gateway to the site. Prehaps the guy I mentioned had one and that's how he got the R3B update. Well he works in IT

The deskstand is probably the base that we got with the P800/900 which we can use to charge the phone and connect it to the comp.

cheech
did you try it?

Posted by: derrumbe

I did.

There's no executable to run, and there's also no java class to run.

You get a jre, and some dll's. That's about it.

Looks like a web-based app that uses the dll's on your machine to get around the usual limitations of web based java apps.

Posted by: Cheech

Yeah with the same results, I think the SEMC desk stand is what's missing. It's maybe what links you to the SE site to get that update service v1.11 app. in the first place as otherwise you would just have to do a trial and error with the sonyericsson.com addy.

This is maybe what service centres use to flash the P800. Anyway it ain't available yet as there is no mention of it at the instant FAQ help when you ask for home updates. They don't yet list the P900 anyhow. Looks like patience is required.

Posted by: AllGlobaltk

You guys are panicing

If it is in your manual and says its possible then whatever is included is used to flash.

Im sure its the cradle. If it was some sort of spechail cable then they wouldnt say it was possible.

But anyhow we will know soon im sure.

Posted by: derrumbe

exactly.

We've already got all the equip required.

It's simply a matter of the site being up.

Patience, after all, is a virtue.

But it's not half as much fun as immediate gratification

Posted by: Cheech

So where did the app. come from? Oh and the guy posted this reply.

Quote:
Hi everyone,

I ran the update from the link on my first post, the program run through, before I ran it my P900 system information said that I had R4A and after I ran the app it said that I had R3B, I am assuming something was changed in my handset, but after seeing everyone elses posts on the subject I am not sure, I took some screen shots of the process, I can mail them to anyone if they want to take a look, info@mobile-it.co.uk

Thanks,

Dave

Hmm, he doesn't sound convincing and R4A to R3B I don't think so

Posted by: rickpaul

Very possible. R4A may have been pulled, or the remote upgrade service may be behind on the firmware...

Posted by: jmburt

for the people who purchased the phone from the developer website:

wouldn't SE update the developers first if a new firmware was available for the p900?

i would hope you get something, other than code warrior, for your $500....
