Fido S55 ok to upgrade firmware v20?

I found a web site with firmware version 20 for the Siemens S55. I have a Fido bought S55, has anybody upgraded the firmware on this? Currently have v17.

Is there anything tangible in the upgrade? It also appears that V20 release is not an "official" release. Not quite sure about that?

Siemens FW v10 was really buggy so I wouldn't be surprised to see v20 out so quickly... even if it isn't official it may be better than v10.

No, just updates firmware (i.e. the phone's software that it runs).

there is no problem in the upgrade. just press start. that's it. after the upgrade, there is no problem either.

Thx for the link 666 and Solomio.

How easy is it to down load? I have it all ready to go. How do I do it? Do I just click start and watch it go? Also... how about the settings. Which COM port do I use and at what speed? Or....(Is it just setup automaticly.......Just click start)

BTW...... I know I have to do it with a full battery.

basically, i assume you are using the serial data cable that comes with s55 package, then plug in to your computer's serial port. then try com1 first, speed doesn't matter. then turn off your phone, then turn it back on again. connect your phone to the cable, press start on the software. and it will start flashing and DON"T touch your phone until the flashing is finished.

Thx.... It sounds simple. How long does it take to flash and will I loose any settings which I will have to reprogram?

Usually flashing a phone will make you lose all settings.

it takes about 15-20 mins to finish flashing. you will KEEP all the settings, ringtons, pics..........lose nothing........

who cares? at least I know it sure fixes some bugs (even though I don't know what) and it didn't make my phone not working after flash and finally it is free. it worths a try.

I just flashed mine Fido S55 a few minutes ago. It was pretty easy to do. I flashed it at a lower speed though..... (at 57600). I was a little confused at the very very very end. The program said.....""it could not ping phone!"" That was the only thing wierd about the down load. Eventhough....... S/W V20 installed.

The only difference I can see so far is:

- phone seems a little quicker
- different language pack: English, Deutsch, francais,Turkce, Netherlands,Italiano, and Arabic ....... (from only English, Spanish, and French)
- Also I think???? The under SETUP --> AUDIO -->.... the ""ringer setting (bell)"" is in black now???? I believe it was coloured before???? Correct me if I am wrong.

BTW....Non of my settings changed. (ie. wap settings, rings, pics, sec codes). So far I'm pretty happy and I look forward to V21!!!

Tips:

**** Make sure your battery is fully charged
**** Activate your call forwarding..... so no one calls you during the download.

the radio on the phone is turned off, so you don't need to worry about anyone calling

I noticed at..... http://www.gsm-free.com/ ......that you can ""unlock"" your phone through a download. Has anyone tried that?.....yet???
